Portal Asrire

"Crashing Wave," the equine answers, twitching an ear at a fly. "And you?

As you give him your name in return, you take the moment to study the creature before you. He's a well-built young asrire stallion with silky, light blue hair that really does look like the foaming crest of a wave when the wind blows it about. In fact, you think the name quite suits him, what with his sea blue coat and sandy markings. "Is that why you live on the beach?" you ask. "'Cause of your name - you know."

Crashing Wave smiles. "Well, I suppose. It's not like I need camouflage or anything, but Reptile Girl has this thing for matching up colors and names with habitats and stuff. I don't mind it, though; there's a fine meadow just a little ways off. Besides, the sea breeze isn't so bad, and there's a lot sand can do that grass can't... I just wish we could drink the water."

"Drink that?" you ask skeptically, watching as a long strand of algae-encrusted plant snakes through an idle wave.

Crashing Wave squints into the sun and grins again. "Well, it would be nice. Actually, I tried for the first few days - well, hours - that I lived here... I thought it was just a big lake or something. I learned my lesson quick, though. Now that I think about it, my first few days were rough here. I wasn't so much as the crashing wave, but the thing every wave crashed into for a long time. And the salts that dry on your coat are awfully hard to get off again, once you've..."

You laugh and tuck your hair behind your ear as it blows across your face. "All right, I get it!" As you lower your own water bottle from your lips, you continue. "You had to live here all by yourself and everything when you were young?" you ask. "But I thought your parents lived here? Somewhere..."

"Actually," Wave interrupts, twisting a hoof in the ground. "I wasn't that young. I left the realm for a while when I was growing up. No, I was pretty old when I got back here; I'd just never heard of an ocean before. Not that surprising, is it?"

You shrug. "I guess not." Sensing the conversation is growing forced, you rub your arms. "I've gotta get going; I'm supposed to meet somebody farther down the beach," you say. "Maybe I'll see you on the way back?"

Crashing Wave nods. "May be! I'll be getting some food now, too. Have fun," he adds with a friendly nod, before he breaks away from you toward his afore-mentioned meadow.

"Bye," you answer softly, and turn to go your own way, as well.
