STADIUM & FIELD: The present day Shields-Watkins field was named for Colonel W.S.Shields and his wife Alice Watkins Shields. Completed in 1921.

The stadium was named for General Robert Neyland..coach from 1926-1952. His leadership started UT's winning tradition. Dedicated as Neyland Stadium was September 1962.

First game on artificial turf was on 9/14/68. Vols vs Ga.



The first ever UT night game was in 1962. The vols whipped the Penn State Nittany Lions 28-21. It was an electrifying event.
