Part 2
Kira was running through the house trying to get things done. She had so much to do. Laundry was already going, dishes were being washed, her animals were being taken care of. Someone knocked on the door. She went to answer it and got a huge surprise. There standing in front of her was none other than Tanya. Oh shit…how am I gonna explain this one?
“Hey Tanya. What’s up?”
“Nothing much. Heard a lot of goings on down here and thought I’d see if everything was ok? What’s going on?” Tanya wanted to know.
“Not much…..I’m just getting ready to go out of town. Leaving tomorrow so I don’t have much time to chat. Sorry.”
Tanya’s curiosity was raging. “Where you going?”
“If you really must know, I’m going down to Indiana to meet Morgan.” Kira curtly replied. Why did I just tell her that. She’s going to try and talk me out of it now….shit!
“WHAT!” Tanya exclaimed. “You mean that girl you’ve been talking to…that one from the internet.”
“That would be the one, yes.” Kira calmly replied.
“Are you nuts!!!???” Tanya protested. “You’re gonna go down there and get yourself killed or something. You don’t know this woman. How can you just run off and go meet her like this?”
“Real easy,” Kira explained. “I’m going to pack a few bags, jump in my car, and then drive down there. See? Simple.” Man, that did sound crazy didn’t it?
“Are you sure you really want to do this? I mean really think about it. How long have you been talking to her? What a couple of weeks?”
“It’s been a month if you really must know…..” Kira replied. That is kind a short time isn’t it. She felt her resolve weakening.
“Yeah ok…a month. When did you decided to leave? Just a while ago I bet. You haven’t really thought much about it have you?”
Damn it…I hate it when she’s right. “Ok you got me there. But I feel really strongly about this and you’re not going to convince me not to go.” Kira stated firmly.
Tanya was worried. “Well then do me a favor. Wait one more day to go. Think about it tomorrow and if you still feel that strongly then go. Will you please think about it?”
Kira debated about it. She hated to admit it but Tanya was right. She had been a bit hasty with her decision to just drive down there.
“Ok. For once I will take your advice.” Kira stated with regret. “But if I decide to leave after that, not another word from you. Agreed?”
“Agreed!” Tanya breathed a sigh of relief. “She really worth driving all that way for anyway?”
“I believe she is yes.” Kira replied, “Someone sounds jealous!”
“I am NOT jealous!” Tanya shot back. “I just think you’re nuts is all.”
Kira’s mind was made up in that instant.
“Well regardless of what you think, day after tomorrow I’m leaving. And I won’t let you change my mind again. Got it.”
“I thought you said you were going to think about it and then decide?”
“I have thought about it…and I have decided. I’m going.” Kira put her hand up. “Not another word. I’m going. That’s it.”
“It’s your funeral.” With that Tanya left.
Now all she had to do was call Morgan and give her the news. It’s only a one day delay. It’ll be fine. It gives us both more time to prepare. Yeah. It’s a good idea. Then why do I dread making this call?
With a shaking hand, Kira picked up the phone and dialed Morgan’s number. After two rings, Morgan picked up.
“You’ve changed your mind haven’t you?”
“No I haven’t changed my mind hon. I’m still coming…..but….I’m not leaving tomorrow.”
Morgan’s heart plummeted. Damn it. Damn it all to hell. I knew she wasn’t coming. Why did I put so much faith in this?
I’m leaving the day after tomorrow if that’s ok? I think it will give us both more time to get ready. I have a lot to do …and from the sounds of it…you do too.”
Yeah right…you’re leaving day after tomorrow. My ass! “Yeah….ok. Sounds good.” Morgan snapped.
“You don’t believe me do you?” Kira’s heart was pounding. Oh God please let her believe me!
“Well to be honest…no I don’t. I really would like to meet you but…..if you feel that you can’t….I understand.”
Kira understood alright. “Listen, I know people have played games with you in the past. I’m not one of them. I am coming down there and I am leaving Friday. Do you understand? I will be there on Friday. You have my word. The first person to call you on Friday morning is going to be me….and I’ll be calling from the road.”
“I would like to know what changed your mind about coming down tomorrow?”
“Tanya was down here,” Kira replied slowly. “and she um…tried to talk me out of leaving.”
“Sounds to me like she succeeded.”
“She succeeded in only delaying the inevitable. I’m leaving and that’s all there is to it. All she did was make me see the logic in taking one more day to get ready. That’s it. I promise.”
Hope began to resurface in Morgan. “Are you sure?”
Kira had never been more sure of anything in her life. She knew what she was doing and it WAS crazy but…..She had to know. Was what she was feeling real?
“I’m sure.” came the definite reply.
“Well I am going to be honest with you….I won’t believe it until you are actually on the other end of the phone telling me you’ve left and are on your way. I’m sorry.”
Kira laughed. “It’s ok. I probably would be the same way. But you’re in for one hell of a rude awakening come Friday morning.”
I sure hope I am. Please don’t back out on me again ok? “Ok. I will call you tomorrow night…..I hope you’re going to be almost ready to leave.”
“Alright hon. I will talk to you tomorrow then. Have a good night.”
“Thanks I will…you too.”
“Night”
“Night”

The phone rang. Kira knew who it was without even looking.
“Hi hon.”
“Hey. How’s it going?”
“Fine. I’m all packed and ready to leave.” Kira said with a smile.
“You’re packed….and you’re really going to leave in the morning?”
“Yup. Unless you’ve changed your mind and you don’t want me to come down there?”
“No, no…I haven’t changed my mind. I just thought that maybe you had another visit from Tanya today and that she had somehow managed to change your mind again.” Morgan said numbly.
“As a matter of fact,” Kira stated. “Tanya was down here today. She watched me pack. She did try to talk me out of it again. I asked her to leave but not before I told her I was leaving in the morning. She didn’t believe me so I told her to look out her window in the morning and she wouldn’t see my car.”
“Are you serious?” Morgan’s head was buzzing. She sure sounds serious. “So…..you’re coming then?”
Kira’s voice gentled. “Yes hon….I’m coming. I’m leaving in the morning. I gave you my word….and I always keep my promises. You’ll see.”
It felt like Morgan’s heart was going to pound itself right out of her chest. Is this real? I guess I’m going to find out tomorrow huh?
They chatted a few more minutes and hung up the phone. Each was lost in her own thoughts. What exactly WOULD tomorrow bring?
***************************************************
The alarm was buzzing. Kira woke with a start. Today’s the day. I’m finally going to meet her. What if she doesn’t like me? What if things don’t work out and I end up turning right around and coming home? So many thoughts were drifting through her head as she headed for the shower. It’s going to be a long day.
She got ready and loaded up the truck. Well that’s it. I’m ready to go…but am I ready for what’s ahead of me? Only time will tell I guess. She shook her head. Get in the truck and just go already.
Kira climbed in and headed for Indiana.

Morgan was already up. She was pacing. When is that damn phone going to ring? She’s not coming. That’s it….she’s not coming. I just know she’s not coming. Oh fuck it!
Morgan picked up the phone and dialed Kira’s cell phone number. She answered it on the second ring.
“Hello” Kira was grinning ear to ear. Thank God for caller ID.
“Hey….Good Morning!”
“Good morning to you too! What’s up?” Kira mischievously asked.
“Just called to say hi and to see what you were doing?”
“Well….you want to know what I’m doing?” Kira was enjoying this.
“Yes! I would like to know……are you gonna tell me?” Morgan could hear the smile in Kira’s voice but didn’t want to get her hopes up.
“Well I’m doing something really important right now” Kira muffled a giggle.
“Oh yeah? And what is that pray tell?”
“I’m driving.” It was all Kira could say without laughing out loud.
Morgan’s mind raced. Did she just say she was driving???? No….she didn’t …did she?
“You’re um….driving?” she asked cautiously.
“Yeah…..I’m driving. I’m going to meet some chick down in ….um…what state was it again….OH YEAH! Indiana. That’s it. Um…..can’t think of her name……Oh Morgan…yeah that’s her.” Kira was laughing out loud now.
“Smartass!!!” Then it hit her. OH MY GOD! “You’re on your way here???” she asked incredulously.
“Yup. Should be there in about 7 hours or so…..don’t know. Depends on traffic and on whether or not I get lost.”
“You’re really on your way?” Morgan couldn’t quite believe it.
“Yes, for the nine millionth time. I’m in the car…and I’m driving to Indiana….to see you. Ok?”
Morgan laughed. “Whooooohooooooo!!!” It was all she could say.
“I’m excited about it too….whooooohoooooo. Now can I get off this phone and concentrate on my driving please there missy?” Kira was dizzy from excitement. She was doing something totally crazy and was loving it. She was also loving the response she was getting from Morgan.
“Yeah. Yeah. I’m really glad you’re coming.”
“I am too.”
“Call me in an hour……let me know you’re ok.”
“Will do. Talk to you then ok?”
“Ok….later.”
“Bye.”
Morgan hung up the phone. She’s really doing it. She’s in the car and on her way. Damn! Damn! I’ve gotta get busy.
