Part 3

The phone rang an hour later and a frantic Morgan answered it.

“Hello”

“Hiya Hon!” came the cheerful voice of Kira from the other end.

Morgan visibly relaxed. “Hi yourself. Where are you?”

“Almost out of the state of Wisconsin if my directions and mileage are accurate.”

“Are you shitting me?” Morgan still wasn’t 100% sure that Kira was really on her way.

“Noooo….I’m not shitting you. You’re not going to believe I’m coming until you actually see me are you?” Kira wanted to know.

Morgan laughed a bit nervously. “Probably not. How long til you get here?”

It’s really going to be a long day….for us both. “I’m not sure. I’ll be there never fear. I’m driving like a mad fiend and hoping I don’t get lost.”

“Ok….well call me in an hour.”

Kira grinned. “You got it. Talk to you then.”

“Ok…..until then. Bye.”

“Bye.”

Kira hung up the phone and was soon lost in thought. What in God’s name am I doing? Is this the right thing to do? Kira sighed. Too late for second thoughts now…I’m on my way and damned if I’m not totally pumped about it. That thought brought a smile to Kira’s face and she continued on her way.

Six hours passed. Kira was getting more and more nervous by the second. She had almost reached her destination and was starting to worry all over again. The distance she had to travel had been covered mile after agonizing mile and now that she was almost there…….the what ifs hit her with a vengeance. What if she doesn’t like me? What if I don’t like her? Well she must like me somewhat…she’s made me call her or she called me every hour on the hour since I left…..

Little did Kira know that Morgan was beginning to get a good case of the nerves herself. Shit…she’s going to be here soon. Am I ready for this? Is she really going to like me?

Kira clicked her turn signal on and made her way onto the exit ramp. She had reached Wishton, IN. Her destination. She was really there. Ok now all I have to do is find her house. This is it…here we go. She checked her directions again. Something was wrong. She should have hit the street she was supposed to turn on already. Oh shit! Now what!? She picked up her cell and dialed Morgan’s number.

“Hello”

“Hi…it’s me. I’m um…..well I’m here but….somehow my directions are wrong. Um……” Kira laughed nervously. “You’re going to have to pilot me in ok?”

Oh my fucking God…she’s really in town. She actually came. “Um….ok….where are you?”

Kira explained her surroundings and Morgan laughed. “Yeah I’d say they gave you the wrong directions. You need to turn around and come the other way on Battle street. When you get to Georges Road take a left.”

“Ok….will do. Don’t you dare hang up this phone now until I get there ok? I already got lost once today and I really don‘t want to do it again.” she said in mock anger.

“I won’t.” Morgan promised. “You got lost huh? Where at?”

“Chicago of all places.” Kira giggled. “The one place I DIDN’T want to get lost in!”

“How come you didn’t tell me you got lost earlier?” Morgan demanded.

Kira grinned. “Because I knew you would be worried. It’s all good….I made it didn’t I?”

Morgan had to admit it….Kira was right she would have worried….besides she was in town now and almost there. It was all that mattered right now. “You on Georges street yet?”

“Yeah I just made the turn. Now what master navigator?”

Morgan didn’t know it but Kira’s hands were shaking on the steering wheel.

“Turn right at the next street. Should be Lawson.”

“I see it….turning.”

“Now drive down until you see my address. It’s where the town homes turn a different direction. You’ll see what I mean when you get down a little further. I’m on the left hand side.”

Kira kept driving slowly down the road. I’m really here. Oh God. I can do this right?

Morgan’s voice broke Kira’s train of thought. “Are you driving a red truck and you’re wearing a baseball cap?”

“Um…yeah…why?”

“I just saw you drive by. Take your next left.”

Kira swallowed hard. “Ok. Talk to you in a minute then?”

Morgan thought she was going to pass out. Her nerves were in a jumbled mess. “Yeah ok. In a minute…ok.”

“Bye for now then…” Kira giggled.

“Bye”

Morgan was in a state. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with herself so she began pacing through the house. She’s outside. She’s right outside. Breathe you idiot…breathe. She’s here and you have to remain calm. Just then her kids came through the door. “Kira just got here. She’s out in the parking lot. Will you guys go help her bring her stuff in please?”

Morgan’s oldest boy Michael replied, “She driving a red truck?”

“Yeah she is why?”

Michael laughed. “Cuz we just walked right by her and didn’t realize who she was.”

Morgan slapped herself on the head and laughed. “Oh jeez….well go out there and give her a hand will ya?”

Michael headed for the door. “Sure Mom.” And with that he was gone.

Michael was a little worried about his mom. He had never seen her so worked up over somebody before. All day she had been a nervous wreck…yelling at all of them to clean the house. The house had to be absolutely perfect. She better be worth all the shit we had to put up with today.

Kira stopped the truck and climbed out. She took a deep breath. I’m here. Now what? Go to the door silly. Go to the door. She opened the back of the truck and no sooner had gotten her bags out of it when she heard her name being said by someone rather close to her.

“Are you Kira?” Michael asked.

“Um…yeah. You must be….Michael?” Kira guessed.

“Yeah that’s me. Mom sent us out here to help you with your stuff.” Hmmm not bad. Mom was right. She is cute.

“Thanks Michael. And let me guess….” She pointed at the young girl standing behind Michael. “You must be Trenda.”

“Yep. That’s me. So you’re mom’s new squeeze huh? That’s cool. Nice truck. Can I have a ride in it?”

It’s a good thing Morgan warned me about this. Kira smiled. “Of course you can…but how about we go in so I can officially meet your mom first.”

Trenda grinned. “Yeah I suppose that would be a good idea. Do you know my mom had us cleaning all day! She’s been a nervous wreck. Don’t tell her I told you that though ok?”

Kira burst out laughing. “I won’t tell if you won’t.” She leaned in close to Trenda. “If the truth be told….I’ve been just as nervous. Don’t tell your mom ok?”

“I won’t. I promise.”

Kira winked at the girl and got a big smile in return. I think she and I are going to get along just fine. I just hope her mother and I get along just as well.

Michael stepped in. “This way…follow me.”

Kira’s legs started shaking and she wasn’t quite sure she was going to make it to the door. This is it. Her heart was pounding…pulse racing. There’s definitely no turning back now.

The three of them were silent as they made the short trek to the front door. Michael opened the door. Kira felt like passing out. Oh that’d be just great. Meet the woman for the first time and pass out on her. Yeah that’d go over well. Just stay calm….just stay calm.

Kira climbed the two steps leading to the front door and crossed the threshold. She looked up and immediately found herself lost in two intense vivid blue eyes. Oh my God. Time stopped. Kira heard nothing but the beating of her own heart as she gazed upon the vision before her. She didn’t care that she was staring nor did she realize she was being stared at.

Morgan was just as caught in the moment as Kira was. Wow! She let her gaze lock itself and get lost in the sparkling green eyes staring back at her. She knew she had a huge smile on her face and didn’t really care at the moment if it looked goofy or not. Her whole world had just stopped and began again in one single moment and that was all that mattered to her.

The two of them stood spellbound for a few moments not knowing what do to or say. Finally, Kira did the only thing she felt was right to do at that moment. She set down her bags, crossed the room, and enveloped Morgan in a huge hug. She felt her arms slide around Morgan’s tall form and it felt as if she had come home and that she never wanted to leave the place she had just settled into.

Morgan watched as Kira crossed the room and wondered what she was up to. She felt Kira’s arms surround her and felt like crying. She wrapped her arms around the small compact body in front of her and the felt the room start to spin. Never before had she felt so at peace. It was amazing.

She leaned over and whispered into Kira’s ear, “I can’t believe you’re really here….I’m so glad you came.”

Kira was so overcome. “I am too” It was all she could say.

The two of them stayed that way for several moments….neither of them wanting to break contact. What finally separated the two of them was the sound of Michael’s voice.

“Ok you two! Break it up! You just met for crying out loud.”

Both Morgan and Kira blushed beet red. They unwillingly separated and stood looking at the audience they had somehow acquired. In those brief few moments the two had been lost in each other…somehow the whole room had filled with people. They had a full house. It made Kira blush even more…but she was grinning ear to ear.

“Oh jeez you guys.” Morgan laughed. “She just got here…don’t start alright. Save it for later.”

The kids started laughing. “Go on you two. We’re not stopping you. “

Morgan was still laughing, “C’mon you guys. Can’t you give me a break?” She focused her attention to Kira and was once again momentarily lost. She quickly regained her senses. “I suppose I should introduce you to the gang.”

Kira just stood there smiling. “I would like that.”

The introductions were made and Morgan once again focused all her attention on Kira. “Would you…um…like to put your stuff away?”

Kira grinned. “Yeah…lead the way boss.”

“Um…..I thought you could put your stuff in my bedroom……”

Kira didn’t think about it. “That would be fine.”

Morgan slowly lead Kira upstairs and into her bedroom. “Well here it is.” She laughed. “I told you it was like a big kids room.”

And it was. There were colorful pictures of unicorns on the wall. Stuffed animals lined the many shelves. There was a huge fish tank in the room as well. Two kites were hung with care from the ceiling. As busy as the room was, Kira decided she liked it. A lot. Suddenly the thought hit her. I wonder where I’m going to be sleeping……if she’ll want me to……

“You can put your stuff down right here.”

“Thanks.”

“So…..how was the drive down here?” Morgan asked. Oh great. That sounded lame. I can’t believe I’m this nervous.

“It went fine for the most part. Got lost in Chicago but you already knew that. It was ok….nice country. I’ve never been this far east so….” Kira realized she was babbling.

She was saved from further embarrassing herself by a knock at the bedroom door.

“Come in!!!” Morgan mockingly growled.

Morgan’s son Brian entered the room. “Mom….can you take me to the video store? I’ve got to get these movies back before they close or they are going to be late.”

“Geez Brian…why didn’t you tell me that BEFORE Kira got here?”

“Cuz I didn’t think of it until just now mom…sorry.”

Morgan looked at Kira. “I’m sorry but would you mind if we took a little trip to the video store?” She shot a look at her son.

Kira laughed. “When we leavin‘?.”

Morgan looked relieved. “You sure you don’t mind?”

“No…not at all. C’mon…let’s go.”

They headed downstairs and were almost out the front door when Morgan suddenly turned and looked at Brian. “You’re staying here.”

“Awww mom. I wanna ride in Kira’s truck.”

“Nope. She just got here and I’d like to spend some time with her ok…..alone. Got it? And besides, who said we were taking her truck?” Morgan grinned.

“Ahhhh…gotcha mom. No problem.” Brian laughed.

Morgan was hoping Kira hadn’t heard that little exchange but she had heard every word. Kira smiled to herself. I guess that means she likes me.

Morgan headed out the door. “My car’s over here. I’m really sorry about this. I know you must be pretty sick of the car and all but….”

Kira laid her hand on Morgan’s arm. “It’s ok. Really. I don’t mind at all.” Kira’s hand tingled from where it had made contact with Morgan. Damn. I think I’ve really got it bad for her…and I just met her. Is this possible?

It was all Morgan could do to make it to the car without tripping all over herself. When Kira had touched her….a bolt of sudden wanting had hit her hard. She had never had that happen before. This just isn’t possible is it? I couldn’t…..could I?

They got in the car and Morgan started it up. Then she just sat there for a minute looking at Kira. God..she’s beautiful. I wonder if I should say something. She made up her mind.

“Can I say something?”

“Sure you can.” Kira grinned.

Morgan swallowed hard. “Well….I just wanted to say….that I’m glad you’re here…and I find you very beautiful.”

Kira blushed. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Um…..I would like to say that I find you….well…..” Kira took a deep breath. “pretty darn cute yourself.” There that wasn’t so hard…

Morgan laughed. “You think I’m cute? She gave Kira a mock scowl. “I’m anything but cute.”

“Bullshit you’re not. I happen to think you are and that’s all there is to say on the matter. Oh and by the way….I’m wearing my contacts and can see just fine…if I say you’re cute…then you’re cute.”

They both laughed….and both relaxed a bit. They chatted about little things on the drive to the video store. Morgan was finding it hard to keep her eyes on the road and off of Kira. She’s so beautiful…..I still can’t believe she drove all this way to see me….and to top it off she thinks I’m cute.
