Most guests are expected to dress as part of the Merchant (or Middle) classes of the mid-16th century (1500s) time period, if they do decide to dress up.  Close members of the family may dress above this rank if they wish, or (just for a bit of fun) they may choose to find a simple peasant's outfit, or wenching garb.  Of course, for those who know the realm of Ren Faire costuming, exceptions can be made, depending on the character you wish to portray.
