 Reneīs hotel guide

(more than a incomplete list of first class houses, I honoured with my visit)

There are stars *  ** ***  , three of them gets houses, which have honoured by a good proportion of price and performance, nice inhabitants, well situated and with good options for eating nearby. Where this is not in case exactly there are less stars.

South Africa

Johannesburg East Gate Backpackers*** - well looked house in the suborb Bedforview, here I get nice welcomed by Guido, Precios and fellows , ideal starting point for a Africa journey.  Has changed the location. Now 41 Hans Pirow Road. Free coffee.

Durban Banana Backpackers** - large house in the middle of Durban, not far to the center and the Golden Mile, you should look for it at daylight.

Port St. Johns Port St. Johns Backpackers***, The village Port St.Johns in the Transkei you best reach by the Baz Bus, it stops outside of Umtata, a place famous for hijacking, for that reason the stop is outside and the advice to take the Baz Bus. There a lift is waiting which brings you save the 80 km to Port St. Johns. Port St. Johns Backpackers is situated not far from the beach. Its also not far to the village (where you get cheap meals, served by nice Xhosa women in the "Happy Hippo")  You have good options to hike  (Eagles nest). PeacefulRuhig with good contakt to the inhabitants living in the backpackers.

East London Sugar Shake Backpackers***, relaxed house in the town

Hamburg Oyster Lodge***, Hamburg is situated in the former Ciskei, relaxed house (oyster farm) magnificant view, family contakt to owner John, extensive kittchen facilities, who likes could taste oysters.  Silent place, ideal for hiking at the river and to the sea, whale whatching if luck.

Knysna Hikers Haven***, peaceful house with some small rooms, not far from the laguna and harbour, good starting point for the surroundings.

Natures Valley ***, situated in wonderful picture postcard scenery. Ideal for hiking, watching and enjoying the scenery.

Swellendamm Swellendamm Backpackers ***, situated at the bottem of the Langeberge in the historic capedutch town of Swallendamm.  In the garden its well possible to have a braii (grill).  The surroundings are good to hike. Free coffee.

Wilderness Wilderness Backpackers *** , absolute dream house, with magnificant view at the railway bridge a(Outeniqua Choo Choo steam railway) over the Kaaimans river, one of the most fotografed objects of South Africa. The house offers different rooms, a kittchen and in front of the house you can sit at benchs of the meadow. To the beach you have to climb up the slope and to cross the railway track. To the town you best walk along the tracks, but you should not go in the nearby tunnel, if the the steam train had passed only some minutes ago. Owner of the house is James Truter, the former president of the South African archery association, realy nice and a good partner in a discussion.

Cape Town Bobs Bakcpackers** , one of a lot of backpackers in Cape Town at the Long Street, In the ground floor there is a restaurant with bar, above are some dormitories with a to small kittchen. Its cheap and so here hang around some boring not travelling backpacker, maybe for this only two stars.

Namibia

Windhoek Card Board***, Tasteful house with a large kittchen, good as starting point to discover the country. Easy to reaxh the city by walk.

Swakopmund Alternativ Space ***, situated in the suborb Kramersdorf, close behind the house beginns the desert inviting to get discovered. Nice rooms, a open kittchen and a shabeen (illegal drinking place). The owner and builder Frenus is architekt. To the city you have to walk 15 minutes. Arestaurants (I forgot the name) one time in the week is a skat tournament.  To the beach you have to cross the city, which has some seightseeings too.  Despite the position close to the desert, the Atlantic Sea takes some wet air, not good if you have to dry your laundry. When I visited the house, Sam was still living here. Now he had relized his plan from a own hotel  hotel in Swakopmund.

Tsumeb ** The Backpackers vistit by me was affiliated at a hotel (again I forgot the name - sloppiness), some spaceful rooms, fridge, kittchen

Etosha  Sachsenheim **, situated at the road from Tsumeb to, near to the junktion to the east gate of the Etosha national park (Fort Namotoni). the owner Gert Sachse (so the house get the name Name Sachsenheim) pursued agriculture too. There are separate huts. The 2 stars there are because the price is above the average for backpacker, but the house itself is really top. You can get tasteful dinner. For a trip to the Etosha park you are requested a transport (for example to the Mokuti lodge, where game drives are offered, after I had my game drive, the driver carried me direct to the Sachsenheim - great)

Rundu  , here I was accomodated privat, for this I can not donate stars. the owner was the boss of the policy (not a bud adress) and I had good talks with him. I believe his name was Oswin. He offered me to join his families trip to Victoria Falls tomorrow. Great - I was consent sure. Rundu is the gate to the Caprivi stripe.

Simbabwe

Victoria Falls Finaughty*** , nearly in the middle of the town, but situated silent. Maybe named after the great elefant hunter William Finaughty, but I did not ask for it.  fast mittendrin, aber doch ruhig gelegen. It was difficult to find such a good and cheap place in Vic Falls.

Victoria Falls Town Council* ok it is possible to stay here and if you have to change your home, because Finaughty was fully booked. Simple dorm huts at the street leadin gto the falls.

Harara Sable Lodge *** situated in the middle of the town, in fact of this you should be at home before darkness. Has a own swimming pool.

Very good house with meadow around the area, dorms in the extansion, kittchen, bar with happy hour and the dayli visit of locals.  Daily free lift to the city, transports to the station and the airport are possible too.

Bulawayo African Sun*** 398 Thuvso Road, Killarney, some outside idyllic in a green suborb. If you arrive the station in the morning you get picked up. Beautiful area the main building, extansions, a beer room. Very friendly owner. He ask everybody how it is, what he like to do and where he want to go next. Mutare Travors Place*** not far from Mrs. Bruce, not so famous but first class too. Come as a guest and go as a friend, by Travor this slogan is true.

Lake Kyle Kyle View Holiday Resort** Chalets, not realy in the typical backpacker styl. Good starting point to discover the Greater Zimbabwe Ruins, nice lake.

Chembe Emmanuels*** A dream of a accomodation, direct at the Lake Malawi in the wonderful Chembe. Prudent service by Martin, its possible to buy drinks.  Meals can made by Nixon (or a other local) at the beach. Nearby there are some feeding huts, inviting you to enter, like the house of the pizza, only the Gap is out of work.

Senga Bay  Hippo Hide Resthouse*** silent house near the lake, but the village has not the charm of Chembe or Nkatha Bay, maybe it gets in the next years.
