| Martha's Book Club Page On this page I will recommend books and do "book reports" I will also have top favorite book lists. I have to have flexible lists because I read voraciously and my favorites can change as often as Texas Weather. I have listed my favorite books on prayer on my page about prayer. | A Review of Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood I read Cat's Eye last summer while I visited my high school friend, Mary Ann. I liked this book partly because of the writing style and partly because of the content. The writing style was somewhat like watching a movie. The initial scene was present tense as if the action was happening right in front of you. The lead character is an artist doing an art show in her hometown. Each art piece is somewhat autobiographical. As she begins to reminisce about some of the events that she was processing psychologically, the reader is taken through her life story but the drama begins when the character is 6-8 years old. (So many things can happen in those crucial friendship forming years that affect us forever in some way or other) I felt the author did an awesome job. I know many will be offended because some of the antagonists are Christian in their belief. There actions are very unChristian and mean. Jesus would never have done to a child what these people did in this story. So I guess I would say it is also a wake-up call to watch how we treat unbelievers regardless of their age. |
