| I love to pray. I don't consider it a merely mystical exercise. I consider it to be a living, vibrant ongoing friendship with God. If I didn't believe that God wants to be my friend and to thus impact and dramatically improve my life, my motives and my character, I wouldn't bother with it at all. I am also confident that prayer has impacted history and will continue to change our world. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Prayer : a few thoughts In the last twenty years an incredible prayer movement has intensified. In the last five years or so it has escalated to international proportions. While it is impressive that countless prayer ministries have emerged, one tragic fact remains: Christianity in general has become somewhat of a laughingstock. In our arrogance, we have confused the contempt that the media and the public have for us as persecution. I believe that what we have called "suffering" is really a reaping of our cocky misunderstanding of the heart of Jesus. Jesus did not seek or accept alliance with the political systems of the time. He did not sanction cruelty or murder by couching it in pseudo-spiritual terminology. I believe that the prayer movement of today could usher in world revival and change if we would get off the high-horse of ecumenicalism and seek unity that is only found at the foot of the cross. In non-religious terms, this means that we must be humble, admit we have been wrong, acknowledge the past failures of our nation, our church and the misogynous tendencies that our confusion over God's character has caused. The "world" is waiting for us to become like Jesus as the Gospels revealed Him to be, not the Republican counterpart that the American Church has deified. |
