A Love Story

CHAPTER SIX

Michelle felt so strange. From far away, she thought she heard a mans voice calling her name. It wasnt until she heard her son calling for her though, that she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was a gorgeous pair of blue eyes, full of concern.

Are you alright? asked Remus softly.

III think so, replied Michelle. What happened?

Well, you fainted right after James and I, said Remus, but he was unable to continue because Michelle suddenly sat up.

James! She exclaimed. Where is he?

Hes fine, hes right here. James, come here and show your mom that youre ok, said Remus.

James stepped up to the couch and leaned over and said simply, Hi mommy! Michelle began to sob uncontrollably and Remus motioned for James to go sit down at the kitchen table.

Its alright, its alright, said Remus. Hes ok now.

Hes all I have left, my God, what if something had happened to him? sobbed Michelle.

Remus, who had not completely let go of Michelle during this entire time, pulled Michelle close to him and whispered reassurances in her ear. However, Michelle only seemed to sob harder at that, and Remus found himself sitting on the couch next to her, running his fingers through her hair and lightly caressing her cheek with his free hand. Gradually, Michelle began to calm down, but Remus couldnt bring himself to let go. The hand that was so casually running through her hair had stopped, and was resting on the back of her neck.

Michelle slowly sat up, and as she came face to face with Remus, she felt it. What she always called the flash. The flash was something that happened to her, always at unexpected times, and usually during an emotional moment. It was exactly what happened when she saw for someone, but without the effort. The rules of remaining still and quiet did not apply during those times, nor did the unsuspecting individual feel any burning sensation.

As she gazed into Remus eyes, she heard his inner voice saying, My God, shes so beautiful. How can a woman be so damn beautiful? Even now, when shes looking at me and I know I should be taking my hands away, I just cant bring myself to do it. Those lips, so full and begging to be kissedstop it, Remus, just stop it. Shed never touch you, shed never want to, shes Michelle looked away at the same time as she sat up a little straighter, and Remus reluctantly let go. They looked up at each other, and both gave in to little nervous laughs.

Michelle looked over the back of the couch, and saw James sitting there at the table, and said, Well, I guess we should have lunch then, eh?

Are you sure you feel up to it? replied Remus. Maybe you should sit here awhile longer.

Oh, no, said Michelle. After something like that, food is exactly what I do need.

They made their way to the table, and began to eat. The main point of conversation was James sudden interest in tree climbing. As it turns out, James had been riding his broom and wishing that he could go higher on it (childrens brooms never go higher than the height of their waist) when he suddenly, and magically found himself in the branches of the offending tree. It upset Michelle a lot, but as she pointed out to herself, just like the living room fire incident, there was nothing she could do about it. Things like this just assured her that magical blood did indeed flow through her sons veins, and that one day, he would become a wizard; hopefully, a great one.

After lunch, the three of them took a leisurely walk outside through the woods, James exclaiming over the nifflers they came upon in a clearing. Later, after returning from their walk, Remus volunteered to keep an eye on James whist Michelle worked in her shop for awhile, brewing potions and going through ones already on the shelf, to see which needed be to thrown out and which could stay. In truth, though, Remus was glad to do it. He couldnt bring himself to leave.
