What to do with a T-shirt #7

This issue we'll teach you how to make a short-sleeve cardigan twinset from two t-shirts. Just right for summer!

Materials needed:

Two matching-color semi-fitted t-shirts
Good scissors
Thread and needle
sewing machine or glue gun (optional)
Buttons (up to 8)

The tank top

Cut the sleeves off the t-shirt or separate them away with a pin.
Fold in the edges a quarter inch twice to form a gentle curve when the shirt lies flat so you have a curve at the sleeves.
Glue or sew the sleeve hems.
Cut the neck of the tshirt off. Cut deeper to make a U-shape 2 1/2 inches down in the front only.
Finish neck by folding down a quarter inch twice in front and back and then glueing or sewing.
Cut off the bottom to the height you'd like. Fold and fasten by folding up twice as for neck and sleeves.

The cardigan

Lie the t-shirt flat. Cut off the neck or separate the stitches with a pin.
Cut the bottom of the shirt to the height you'd like. Fold twice and fasten (sew or glue).
Cut the FRONT ONLY of the t-shirt down the middle.
Cut a V from 3 inches down from the top to the corners of the neck.
Fold in the neck and front edges so you have a smooth edge all the way, folding a quarter inch twice and then sewing or glueing.
Cut slits on the right "flap" of the cardigan (to the right when you are facing the t-shirt). Make the slits from the bottom of the V down to the bottom. Make 3-4 slits that are 1/2 the width of your buttons. You can make more if you like, or just one for the top.
Sew the edges of the button slits so they are now 3/4 the width of the buttons. A little glue on the inside can do this as well.
Holding the slits over the other "flap" of the shirt, place the buttons on the left flap and pin in place.
Sew the buttons in place with needle and thread. You can also get button-fasteners at drugstores that require no sewing.
You can also cut and fold the sleeves to a height and width you like.

Now wear your tank, pull over your cardigan, button up, and show everyone what an amazing tailor you can be with just two tees!
