What to do with a T-shirt #2
You've got piles of T-shirts and tops sitting around, I know, and they're ready to get sent out, but you know no one but you would ever wear a shirt that says "I was an Honors Student at Smallville Middle School." That given, what can you do? You wouldn't really want "Smallville Middle School" written across your backside and make the wrap top (see T-shirt #1). Instead, you can make a patchwork shirt! It's very wearable and makes for a great top you can match to anything and which you'll love wearing over and over. Match it with your wrap top, too!
Materials:
T-shirt
scissors
printed cloth
sewing stuff or fusible web
There are 2 ways to do this: cover up the area or replace it. You decide, but covering is usually easier. To do this, first cut out a piece of cloth that's a pretty design or a printed cloth, on the same color background as your T-shirt.
You'll want to keep the scraps and any other pieces of the pattern. Cut to the same size as the area you want to cover, and fuse it right on, with the edges folded in 1/2 inch or so. Now you can do the cool things to modify your shirt: cut out the ribbed collar carefully - this will make the neck roll. Then cut the bottom of the shirt to get it just at your hip. Finally, you can cut out the sleeves if you like, and you have a raw-edged summer tee.
Now take the scraps you kept aside and place strips of the pattern around the arms and at the bottom edge, so it overlaps - fuse it on so you have a seamless edge!
