Great Fashion Makeover

Who's that model?

What to do with a T-shirt #4

The Great Fashion Makeover is ready to begin. It's a grand affair we can do as a group or individually. Here's the challenge:

Gather some friends together. As many as you can, and it helps to have rich people and people with really good or really bad taste!

Now have each person raid their closets for stuff they've been dying to get rid of, or clothes they're tired of, or clothes they just can't or don't wear anymore. Even "I'm not sure if I want to get rid of this" clothes should be brought out, but kept aside.

Now meet up, and go through each piece - why do you hate it? Do you really? Who else has something that would go great with it? Pair em up and you can donate it to the other person who loves it or take their matching piece and wear it! Do it until each piece is matched with someone. If there's something everyone hates and will never wear, keep that for charity.

If you're doing this alone, match all the clothes in your closet to one another. Each bottom should have at least one top to go with it and each top should go with at least two bottoms (so you have a chance to decide). If anything doesn't fit, get rid of it or write down what you need to get! Check for matching accessories too - one great bag to go with everything and shoes to match, too.

Now comes time for the borrowing. Take all your so-so clothes (the I'm not sure ones) and see who wants each piece most. Lend it out - in a week you'll know if you really want it back or if you're certain you'd rather see it on your friend than on yourself.

Sort again. Now try matching things together you normally wouldn't. Try weird color combinations and unusual pairs - like turtlenecks INSIDE dresses and tops over them, more layers, a white shirt with everything. You'll find new, trendy or traditional outfits without buying a thing.

When all the sorting and sifting and pairing is done, take a look at your wardrobe. Still too big? Then take out half your clothes and put them away in a suitcase. You can switch out your clothes six months later when they'll seem brand new again. Too small a wardrobe STILL? Get yourself some classics that go with everything - a white shirt, neutral colors, all-weather wear.

Finally, take a look at your wardrobe again. You'll see a whole new one, with borrowed clothes and new-to-you ones, streamlined down only to what you love, and with great new combinations popping out at you each morning.
