Choosing a place time for Meditation
You can meditate at any time and at any place you wish. When you first begin to meditate, it is best to sit in a quiet area free from the
noise of telephone ringing and away from other activities. As you develop you concentration,
you are able to meditate even in noisy surroundings. You should sit in meditation when
you are fully awake, so that you will not fall asleep.
Choosing a position
To meditate, select a pose that is most comfortable for
you - sitting in a chair or in a cross - legged position, lying down or standing.
Should be relaxed, with no tension in any part of the body. Lying down is not recommended
you will tend to fall asleep.
Concentrating
Once you have selected a pose, you close you eyes very gently, as you do when going to sleep.
Take a deep breath, as you breath in, breath in relaxation and exhale all you
tension, repeat this three times. This will take you to the Alpha level.
Focus
you attention into the middle of what lies before you, at a distance of around eight to ten inches in front of
you forehead. Do not put any strain or tension on the forehead or eyes. It is not the outer eyes with which you concentrate; it is the inner eye
that sees in front of you. Look straight ahead on a horizontal plane. Focus you attention ahead of you as if you are watching a
picture.
As you sit in meditation all sorts of thoughts will creep into your mind. You will start thinking about your problems, your work, your families, your friends - etc. To help you to concentrate in your meditation a Mantra is usually given by a Guru (a Competent Master), this Mantra is to be repeated silently as you repeat the mantra and concentrate on the mantra, you block all the thoughts from creeping into your mind. If you don't have a Guru, you can use the names God or use the Universal Sound OM or AUM are to be repeated slowly, at intervals and not in quick succession.
