What
is Ninjutsu?
In the early 1980s, many publications were
released referring to the arts of the Bujinkan
as Ninjutsu.
Ninjutsu
represents only a small portion of what is taught
by the Bujinkan. The name which encompassed the
entirety of the teachings of the Bujinkan had
been Ninpo Taijutsu referring to the Art
of Body Movement, the philosophy of the
people who came to be known as the Ninja.
What
is Budo Taijutsu?
In 1995, Dr. Hatsumi changed the name of the art
from Ninpo Taijutsu to Budo Taijutsu. This name
more correctly represents the diversity of the
teachings in the Bujinkan. Budo Taijutsu begins
with the basic Karate skills of Koshijutsu, Koppojutsu
and Dakentaijutsu. These include long distance
tactics as well as close range grappling skills.
Intermediate students begin to learn with short
range weapons and disarming of weapons. In the
advanced levels, practitioners learn tradition
Japanese battlefield weaponry and tactics.
Why
study Budo Taijutsu?
The purpose of practicing Budo Taijutsu is different
from other martial arts or sports which train
for competition or encourage aggression. Budo
Taijutsu not only teaches effective techniques
for self defense but also develops the mind, body
and spirit and fosters a sense of peace and justice.
