Reiki is a holistic / alternative health care treatment, based on the belief of many ancient cultures that everything has Life Energy. How this Life Energy flows through the body deeply affects our bodies, mind, and spirit. These ancient cultures developed techniques to restore the normal flow of the Life Energy in the body. A few of the current treatment modalities based on this ancient knowledge are : Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Chiropractic, Craniosacral therapy, Healing touch, Homeopathic medicine, Massage, Music & Sound therapy, Naturopathic medicine, Reflexology, and Reiki.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning "universal life energy." This body of knowledge and techniques is about 2500 years old. Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered it in the late 1800's. Dr. Usui dedicated his life to helping others with Reiki. He successfully treated individuals, taught Reiki to others and established Reiki Clinics in Japan. Dr. Usui died in 1926. Because of his good work and dedication Reiki spread around the world. Reiki came to North America in the 1970's.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of hands on energy work. It is safe for all ages from premature babies to elderly. It compliments and enhances all types of medical treatments. It has no side effects and no contraindications.
Reiki stimulates a relaxation response, which enhances integrated functioning of the body's healing systems. Relaxation acts through the autonomic system to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and to relieve tension and anxiety. The state of relaxtion also enhances the ability of the immune system to defend against infection, and stimulates the brain's production of endorphins that act to decrease pain and create a feeling of well-being.
Health is a precious gift and needs to be nurtured. Reiki is a good wellness tool! |
