| Las Vegas -- a city dedicated to everything that is loud, tacky and over-the-top. A place where gambling and excess are cardinal virtures. This is a place for a couple of regular guys! | |||||||||||||||||||
| We stayed at the Riviera, a great place for regular guys. It's not one of those theme park hotel/casinos that draw families. This hotel is aimed at adults. It's in a great location on the Strip, has good restaurants, a great casino and is reasonably priced. Some other similar resorts include the Stardust, Barbary Coast, Flamingo HIlton and Harrahs. | |||||||||||||||||||
| We made this trip in mid-summer, so we got a good taste of what summer heat is like in the southwest. High temperature everyday was between 108 and 110 degrees. Peg learned how to find a cool spot to rest while we saw the sights. | |||||||||||||||||||
| While the best places to keep cool in Las Vegas are the air conditioned casinos, that can get expensive pretty fast! So, we spent some time at the Riviera's outstanding swimming pool. | |||||||||||||||||||
| If the hedonism of Las Vegas is getting to be too much, you can get you moral compass calibrated at the Cathedral of the Guardian Angel. It is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas. In a town where distinctive architecture is almost mandatory, this huge A-frame church features stunning murals and breath-taking stained glass. You'll find it right on the Strip, next door to the Desert Inn and across the street from the Stardust. | |||||||||||||||||||
