New England
Boston
A wonderful city. This brief visit does not do it justice. One important word of advice. Traffic here is awful. Not only is it congested but the drivers are among the worst anywhere and the street patterns do not follow any logical pattern. Dave used to live out here and knows the area pretty well, but we still got turned around heading out toward Boston College and ended up in a "very sincere parking lot" somewhere in Brookline (Ask Peg about that). Take our advice. Park on the outskirts and use the wonderful mass transit. The
MBTA is easy to use and goes everywhere. It's also cheaper than the high parking cost in the city.
Boston Commons
This is a great central point for exploring Boston. To get here, just take the MBTA to the Park Street Station. From here you can walk to downtown shopping, Beacon Hill, the Back Bay, Chinatown and follow the Freedom Trail to the historic sites such as Paul Revere's shop, Park Street Burying Grounds, Fanuil Hall, the Old North Church and others. From the Park Street subway station you can take the Red Line to
Harvard Square, or the Green Line to the Boston Art Museum, Fenway Park and Boston College.
Boston Garden
This was a pilgimage. The Regular Guys are big
Boston Bruins Hockey fans . Dave used to come here and watch the greats such as Phil Espisito, Bobby Orr, and Gary Cheevers. He even broadcast the high school state hockey championships from the press box in the Garden. Now the Garden is gone and the Bruins have moved to the new Fleet Center. We're sure it's a nice facility...but this place was special. To see where it was, take the Green Line or the Orange Line to North Station.
Memento
Bob did come away from this trip with a special rememberance..a special edition Bruins cap. The new dilemma will be whether to wear it when the Bruins come to Columbus during the 2000-2001 NHL season to play our new Columbus Bluejackets. The Regular Guys will have some real mixed emotions on that day.
