The North Atlantic We were anxious to spend some time on the ocean, so we drove all the way out to the end of Cape Cod, to Provincetown, and boarded a ship from the Dolphin Fleet for a whalewatching expedition to the southern end of Stellwagon Banks. As luck would have it, there were no whales in the area that day. But we still had a very nice morning relaxing at sea.

Provincetown We returned to dry land for some lunch and shopping. Provincetown is an artist colony noted for its interesting shops. It's also noted for its large gay population -- not exactly a plus for a couple of regular guys and their wives. But it was...different.

Dunes Probably the most interesting sights on the Outer Cape are the sand dunes. They are huge, desolate, constantly changing and go on for miles and miles. This is a great area for hiking. You can stand on the beach and know that all of America is at your back and the next dry land in front of you is Europe.
