Sammy Sosa --Outfield

"Slammin' Sammy" - probably today's most powerful hitter, and most popular player. His is one of the few names known even in other countries, where baseball is still "growing".
Sosa, born in the Dominican Republic, only started in 1998 racing Mark McGwire for the single season homerun record. He lost with an amazing 66 homeruns, but won the NL MVP that year, with a huge lead. In the last few years he improved his batting abilities, drawing walks as well as hitting the ball out of the park. Sosa is a celebrity and it's just fun to watch him. Like Ernie Banks he is a strong hitter on a team which usually finishes lower than, say, first place, but in 1998 he led the Cubs to the NL wild card in a spectacular finish with the S.F. Giants.
On the top picture Sosa belted homerun # 62 of the season, one more than the 35 year old record of 61 by Roger Maris. On the bottom is Sosa hitting a homerun in August 2001.
