Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown --Pitcher

When Brown was seven, he lost a finger after having put his hand in a corn grinder. A few weeks later he broke two more of the same hand. Years later when he started play in the majors he discovered that this gave him a terrific curve. He helped the Cubs get four pennants and win two World Series titles. His career ERA of 2.06 is the third best in major league history. In 1908 he became the first player to pitch four consecutive shutouts.
