The Blackthorne family ruled the small city of Blackthorne for centuries as their history goes far back. The family Blackthorne began with Gerrad Blackthorne who was a great priest to the god Calthul. He fell deeply in love with this young lady who returned his affections and soon they were to undergo the ceremony of bonding. Then tragedy befell upon them as the god Calthul was displeased at the way the inhabitants of the city-state Targoth, as it was known at the time, worshipping another god and the rise in the pagans sent a great wave across the city pulling Gerrad's beloved into the seas. As the people began repairs to the city, Gerrad headed to the Temple of Calthul. Their Gerrad begged for the return of his betrothed, but Calthul refused his request. Instead he revealed to Gerrad his love's new form - pale and lifeless. Thoughts of vengeance entered Gerrad's mind and he visited the god of which Calthul was at war with to learn the means of justice. He found Modain eager to comply, having no love for a rival god. Modain revealed that a powerful substance Blackrock or also known as God's bane combined with an ancient spell was immutable by any amount of Calthul's powerful waves. Gerrad remembered the tales of the ancient Pagan temple and the great blackrock table. He returned to the ruins atop a volcano and found in the crater the remains of the shattered table. There, in the murky waters continually filled by rains, was the darkened silt and slabs of this Blackrock. Using his powerful spell at the God's temple he shaped the walls around the God's totem into the Blackrock substance. In addition, he melded the Blackrock into the God's totem trapping the God's form within. He was prepared to destroy the temple and the God he worshipped by finishing the spell. Before he could complete the task, Calthul's plea's stayed his hand. He promised to returns his beloved's body so that she could be buried properly and her soul lay to rest. He also offered to pass on to him and all in his future bloodline a modicum of his powers. Gerrad accepted his bargain for the good of the people that the god constantly tormented and killed. From that point on the city-state had peace and Gerrad was named lord of it and the name was changed to Blackthorne. Since then the Blackthornes have ruled the city-state and all those in the bloodline of Gerrad have been granted magic powers. Also, Calthul gave Gerrad a magical fountain that would bestow upon the drinker the blood of Gerrad in case somewhere down the lineage, a descendant could not father birth children and adoption was an option.
In the begining the Blackthornes were a small clan, living in the city-state Blackthorne, in what is now called Ireland. Back then they were called the Tutha De Dannon and many in the ranks could use magic or were born of magic beings. Magic was all to common through out the land in these days. It was on the eve of a great change that their family heritage would begin. Reese Blackthorne and Orianna twins, were five years old at this time. Their elder brother's Desmond and Vincent were eight and twenty-one. The family had gathered to talk of the inpending disaster that was sweeping the land. A disease was moving amongst man and beast killing all those that harnessed magic or were made of magic. There was no cure for this malady known simply as "the genesis". In time this disease would clense the world of magic altogether. The elders of the clan {one of which was Rasha the children's father} had decided to follow the other clans to a mystical dooerway known as "The Stone Henge" Here they would transverse from this world to another in which the disease did not exist and in which magic flourished. When the harvest moon was full those gathered around the gate witnessed a bright light emit from the stones. In the appeared an oval shaped orange light, this light was the doorway. Quickly they filed into the gateway and entering a dense fog. After three days of walking the refugees emerged into a land that would be their new home.
3 years after their arrival the land had become known as Ayenee. Rasha now the sole leader of the clan created a new set of rule that would follow an ancient prophecy. Under his rule the clan went into an age of enlightment magic and science working together. The clan was now known as a family clan a ruling house in Ayenee. They pledge their loyalty to Varsinax the emperor and built a castle close to the capitol city. The oldest brother Vincent set out to explore the new land now that his family had settled. Desmond was not to happy about the prophecy rule which would one day leave the clan to be ruled by Reese and Orianna. Desmond had falling under the Blackthorne curse and began to embrace his darkside letting his powers become wild and unpredictable. He started creating distrust amogst the ranks and began picking those that would one day follow his rule. Soon as with any great land a war broke out amongst the family clans. Rasha declared the Blackthorne neutrality on the war, but this did not go well with some of the others. For Desmond this was all to good this would aid him in his attempt to overthrow Rasha. An unlikely ally showed up to aid Desmond in this a strange demonic vampire known as Diago (Diago Deago Darkthorne). He told Desmond he would handle Reese and Orianna while he delt with Rasha. This was a cover up to his true goals and the two would come to betray one another. Reese had fallen in love and Orianna had as well these two loves of their lives would be taken away by Diago's handy work. Meanwhile Desmond sent Blackthorne agents to assasinate the emperor, they were betrayed by Desmond. The failed attempt on Varsinax's life caused a devastating blow to the Blackthorne's they were exiled from Ayenee and it's neighboring kingdoms. These were ruled by the other family clans who shuned the Blackthorne's. Relina was killed by Diago and this angered Desmond for this was not part of his plan. Desmond was injured by demonic assasins under Diago's command. Rasha left the clan after arriving upon the island that would become their new home and their own kingdom. He went in search of Diago for the part he played in the murder of Rasha's wife. This angered many Blackthornes and the fact that he left the clan in the hands of Reese and Orianna angered them more. Desmond now to injured to carry out his plans to take over the clan convinced those displeased with his father's judgemnet to follow him out of the clan and create a new one that became known as the "Darkthornes". Desmond swore to Reese and Orianna he would some day returned and take the rule out of their hands by force if need be. The Darkthornes were hated by those that lived in Ayenee and the Blackthornes they had left. They became exiles of both worlds. Having to settle on a island in a run down castle. Reese and Orianna would later hear of their father's death at the hands of Diago. For now they disbanned the clan and went into hiding to find themselves and grow so they could be better rulers.
Many years had passed and the war between the Blackthornes and Darkthornes had claimed many lives. Both clans barely existed and their numbers were so then they could barely even be called clans anymore. A group of Darkthornes attacked Amadeus Blackthorne and a group of his associates sparking up another war between the clans. This caused Reese to doubt whether his family would survive long enough to see an end to the fighting which had taken it's toll on him. Orianna's where abouts during this time became a mystery but Reese's were easy to find. He had taken up drowning his sorrows in the nearest bottle possible. It was in this way he found the woman who would one day known as a hero to the Blackthorne family. Raine Jensen was her name and she inspired Reese to stand up for his clan. Day after day he tried to gain and auidiance with the emperor to clear his family's name. He also began visiting with Vincent's wife who had come to Reese for protection one day. She bore a child and gave Reese a place to stay while he was away from the family's estate. Long after her death Reese had taken to raising her child like she was his own. He sent her to stay in his own castle and it was shortly after that Vincent returned. He began a counter strike against the Darkthornes while Reese and Raine were celebrating their marrige. It was shortly after the wedding that the Darkthorne forces were defeated. Together Reese and Raine tricked and defeated Diago and reunite the Blackthorne family. Diago returned later and killed Raine while she was with child. This brought on a dark age for the Blackthorne family.
Weeks had passed since Raine's death and the family had come to remember her as a hero. She had made Reese a ruler and had marked the defeat of their long hated enemies. A statue was erected in her honor to forever speak to future generations of Blackthorne and show that they could triumph over their problems together. Orianna had returned home and after coaxing her brother out of a depression adied him in returning them to good graces with the emperor. The Blackthorne were no longer exiles they were once again a ruling family. Together they set about rebuilding the family's rank and bringing back lost members. It was later after a long battle that Desmond was defeated and returned home a reformed Blackthorne. Now it was Reese's turn to fall from grace, he had become mad and started killing and attacking innocents. Soon it had come to blows with his own sister and brothers. They decided nothing could be done but to exile him from the clan. His exile only fueled his maddness more and led him into hiding eventually. It was later that he came out alone and powerless he had been in hiding for two years while his family carried on without him.
Having reformed himself and loss his powers Reese became a wandering healer. He became loved by many he healed and when told his days of bloodshed they could not see him being that same person. Reese had decided it was time to make the journy home and so he did. Finding that most of the family had been killed during the last great war against the long time enemies of the Blackthorne the Demise and their allies. Orianna was there to greet him and with what had seemed a long darkness now a new era began for the Blackthornes and era of light. The family began to rebuild so that one day it would again be a well respected family clan in Ayenee.
