Moonlit Thoughts
As day retreats into the orange
glow of the setting sun,
my mind drifts to the pleasures
we share so many a night,
filtered glances of faded moonlight
through barely swaying treetops
gentle evening wind whispering a
lullaby to the sleepy scenes of nature.

Earth holds no temptation divine enough
to steal my attention from the heaven
in your eyes.
If for just the moment your hand
brushes my shoulder I am alive and
warm in the arms of love.

These minute footprints in time are
reason enough to journey into every other
hoping to find you still at my side.
Never has love been so boundless as it lives
within me for only you.
Forgive me if I held you too tight;
all my nights are plagued with a fear
waking to find I've only dreamed you.

I hesitate with the words that rush
to my lips so often, wondering if
you'll tire of hearing the confessions
of my heart or if you even understand
their meaning.
Knowing that even if speech escaped me,
still the luminous expression on my face
would betray my feelings for you.
Just as heaven must look down upon earth
I must love you because it's the truth of my
existence.
