Rumor Central Has temporarily Moved! (All new Updates there)
Rumor Central is moving soon (Updated 1-5-04)
12-28-03: Sources indicate that there are several deals on the table for Scott Williamson, who likely will be traded because we wants to either close or start, and the Red Sox already have five starters and a closer.
12-28-03: The Boston Herald confirmed earlier reports yesterday that Brian Daubach will be signed tomorrow.
12-27-03: The Red Sox appear to be ready to announce the signing of Brian Daubach, probably meaning that Mark Sweeney will not be signed.
12-26-03: (12:00 PM) While the trade appears to be dead for now, sources indicate that trade talks could start up again in the new year at some point. The trade remains desirable for both teams, because the Red Sox are going to have difficulties re-signing incumbent shortstop Nomar Garciaparra and are tired with Manny Ramirez' on and off-the-field antics, and the Rangers are stuck under Alex Rodriguez' massive contract and are unable to afford pitching. For now, however, no discussions are being held.
12-26-03: The Red Sox are believed to be interested in Ryan Dempster, who is rehabbing and should be ready for the second half of the season.
12-26-03: The Red Sox appear close to signing Mark Sweeney as a left-handed bat off of the bench.
12-26-03: Cuban phoenom Maels Rodriguez is poised to give scouts from many teams, including the Red Sox, a tryout in early January.
12-23-03: Pokey Reese signed with the Red Sox today. He will likely platoon with Mark Bellhorn at 2B.
12-16-03: The Red Sox have acquired Mark Bellhorn from the Rockies for cash and a player to be named later.
12-15-03: The Scott Sauerbeck deal fell through yesterday. He will now be non-tendered.
12-08-03: The Red Sox are inquiring about re-acquiring Freddy Sanchez from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Scott Williamson has been mentioned, although Williamson seems too much for Sanchez.
12-05-03: Johnny Damon is being actively shopped, possibly to the New York Mets.
11-30-03: Scott Williamson wants to be back on the Red Sox next year, preferably as a starter. Williamson will likely either return as a set-up man or not at all, but becoming a starter is unlikely unless there is an injury to rotation members, as Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, Derek Lowe, Tim Wakefield and Byun Hyung Kim already makes up the Red Sox rotation.
