The Erudesh are a recent phenomena within elven communities, dating back only a century ago. Born with a blueish hue to their skin, and dark black or purple eyes, the Erudesh are completely magically inept. In fact, they seem to be born contrary to magic, even opposing it with their very essence.
The reasons for this are unknown - and each year more of these children are born to otherwise normal seeming parents. Some blame the increase in pollution due to technology loving civilizations. Others say that the forces of mana are waining and that the elves are either the first indicator, or they are evolving to deal with the changing world.
Whatever the reason, these children are seen as abomminations and unnatural. One out of 30 elven babes born "suffer" from this "condition."
The Erudesh find it difficult to function within elven society - due to their moodswings and the fact that they dampen magic around them. Within their elven communities the Erudesh are seen as cripples - their name is derived from the sylvan word for "broken/crippled."
The Erudesh do not see themselves this way - a fact which breeds a great deal of contempt for their so called "betters." The first Erudesh struck out on their own when they came of age, and found human civilizations far more hospitable, and nearly all Erudesh born within elven communities leave when they have reached 16-20 years of age.
They are praised for their "exotic beauty" in most human lands. However, a few of the more violent Erudesh have tarnished the races reputation, and most view the "Tainted Elves" with distrust.
PREGNANCY:
Rarely, the union of two Erudeshy produces a "normal" elf. Depending on the attitudes of the infants parents, the child is often given to elven communities or left for dead. In rare instances, the child is reared by its own parents.
