January 29th: Hello from bedrest central! We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Ella and Sophie. Every time we see them on the sonogram makes us want to hold them that much more! We are now 28 weeks as of tomorrow! HAPPY VIABILITY DAY! Basically that means that if the girls are born now, they are out of the woods so to speak of any of the micro-preemie problems they would have had if they had been born earlier! At least that is the hope. I have received my first round of steroid shots to help the girls lungs develop. We are really excited< knowing that we will have two little girls here in about a month! We were able to visit the NICU and were very impressed. The staff all seemed wonderful, and the babies all looked wonderful despite being so tiny. What is great is that we will not have to send them to another hospital. Our hospital has a level 3 NICU. We continue to be blessed with so many generous people in our life, and we are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love we have received from friends and family and even those we do not know on a personal level! God's grace is amazing.
Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us! :) |

January 12th: Hello to all! It has been almost two weeks of being on bedrest! Ben and I have been very fortunate to have had many helpers and visitors, starting with Ben's mom and Dave, and then a few days later, Ben's sister Katie came to stay for about three days. She was a tremendous help! She even painted my toenails for me! My parents also made the trip over the weekend, and they brought a carload of gifts to us from members of my congregation back home in Columbus. A wonderfully generous woman in the church decided to get packages and gifts together from people in the congregation and have them brought to Ben and I. I am having a ball opening one gift a day! It gives me something to look forward to! We also received enough food to feed a small army from a long time family friend, who happens to be an amazing cook as well as a generous soul. Who would have thought that tomato soup and cornbread could taste like heaven! May I have the recipe, Greg? We are so blessed to have the wonderful support of such amazing people in our lives. I don't know how we would do it otherwise! Thank you to all who have continued to keep us in your prayers. It means so much to know we have so many people praying for us and for our little Ella and Sophie.
I will be having Dr's appoinments every week for the next three weeks, so we will keep you all updated on our progress. I think we will have a 28 week birthday/viability party on January 30th! That is a huge goal for us right now! |

January 3rd: HAPPY NEW YEAR! We had a bit of a scare New Years Day. I woke up and had some light spotting. Ben was out picking up our cribs, armoir, and changing table (Thanks Grandma Kathy) so I called our Dr. who was on call, and he told me to go to the hospital so he could check me out. I couldn't get ahold of Ben but luckily Ben's mom and stepdad were in town, and she was able to head right over and go with me to the hospital. When we got there, I was admitted, and they did Non Stress Tests on both babies to make sure they were doing fine, and they both were kicking up a storm and behaving quite badly :) (signs of times to come?) But they both reacted just as they should to the test which was a positive sign. When he Dr. arrived he checked me out, and saw on the Ultrasound that I was contracting but couldn't feel it, and that my cervix was opening. As a result I am now home on Bed Rest for the duration of the pregnancy. I have bathroom privileges only, and I am not allowed to do stairs. This is going to be quite challenging for both Ben and I, but we will survive! :) Plenty of books, movies, and computer. We knew this was a probability, so we were somewhat prepared, maybe just not this early. I am also taking Procardia, a blood pressure medication that has a side effect of relaxing the uterus, so this will hopefully keep me from contracting. However, we now have to be prepared to be admitted into the hospital at any visit to the Dr. Thanks for all of your prayers and thoughts during this time! We don't have long to go! |

December 22nd: Well we are finally settled in here in Louisville. It feels great to be settled in, and have Christmas decorations up! We have seen our new Perinatologist twice, and Isabella Rose and Sophia Grace look wonderful! They are a pound each, and they are as healthy as can be. They are also very active, and kick me at all hours of the day. You can even see my belly jump now when they get some good ones in!
We are taking it one day at a time, and realize that I may end up in the hospital within the next month for monitoring, and then before we know it, the two little ones will be here!
Thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes! This is such an exciting time, and we can't wait to see our girls! |
