| Rating(on a scale from 1 to 10): 9 1992 The Beastie Boys decide to take their instruments out of the attic for Check Your Head. This is the album that ifluenced Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock more then any other Beastie Boys album. It takes Run-D.M.C.'s idea of joining rap and rock together, and perfects it. Funky guitar riffs and cheesy organs dominate the background of this album. They go easy on the jerkdom image and play with a slightly mature feel. And the lyrics are a good fusion of wisdom and humor. Just take a look at the lyrics to "Pass The Mic" to learn what I'm getting to. The boys also cover a lot of ground on this album, giving us some rap, funk, and hardcore all on one album. Very smooth. What's also smooth about this album is it never emphasises on one genre. This isn't a hardcore album, it's not a rap album, and it's not a funk album. It's a...jeez....I can't describe it. A confused album? Maybe that's a good way to sum it up. I'm not really sure why I like this album. Actually, when I first got it I thought it was crap. But I learned this album can grow on you, as it did for me. All of a sudden I realized the creativity and sophistication of the album, and began listening to it over and over... |
