Introducing....the XR2 mk2
On February 20th 1984 Ford began production of the Fiesta XR2 mk2.It was June before the general public got to see the car.And because of last minute production problems it was the Autumn before the car was available to the public in quantity. The (unconfirmed) fact is that only 165 mk2 XR2s were registered in the UK on "A registration" before August 1984.

The Fiesta mk2 range was introduced in the UK in August 1983,just in time for the new style prefix registration numbers (i.e A123 ABC).This was the artists impression of how the mk2 would look as printed in the June 1984 issue of the Ford "Cars" brochure. So what profile tyres are they????

Throughout the advertising campaign Ford stuck with a red XR2.The red in question was "sunburst red",a shade familiar to mk1 XR2 owners, but not a shade seen on many mk2 Fiestas. In fact it was deleted very soon after the launch of the mk2 XR2 & replaced by the darker "rosso red". Sunburst red looks out of place on a mk2 XR given the 1000's of rosso & radiant red examples made, but it does make the sunburst car stand out from the crowd.

Ford must have thought the new XR2 would overwelm its dealers' salespeople because it produced this Product Guide with "confidential-for Ford sales staff only" in the top left corner of the front cover. The guide details the virtues of the XR2 whilst giving enough details about the "competition" to make the salesman sound very well informed!
