There were two distinctly different versions of the XR2 mk2.The early car (1984-86) had a grey steering wheel & dashboard binacle surround. It also had a centre console with a draw built in for cassette storage.

The early interior trim was called "rainbow",a black material with pinstripes in the centre sections. The early trim was unique to the XR. This angle gives a better view of the early centre console. Very early XR2 mk2s had head rests which had "ear shaped" edges, but from late 1984 onwards they were cylindrical in shape

In 1986 the XR2 was revised with a new "monaco" trim & black steering wheel/binacle surround."Rosso" was now the red.

The mountain climbing theme hung around though

Whilst endowing the XR with a new interior trim Ford "forgot" to install the drawer centre console & remote boot release mechanism. The console was now a puny tray. In 1988 the red became "radiant".The image to the left shows just how bright it is compared with "rosso".
