"BEX" The Concours years.
With the rebuild of C25 BEX completed during the winter of 1995/96 it was my hope to win a few awards at concours competitions organised by Fast Ford magazine at Ford Fair & the XR Owners Club national & regional day events. The car had been built to compete in the modified classes as this allows much more freedom to express your own preferences, whereas the standard classes are very strict-the car has to be exactly as it left the factory (with a few allowances for security devices, stereos etc).
Ok,so this was actually September 1995,before the car was rebuilt but I thought i'd include it here to show that I didn't always wrap the car in cotton wool! This was at the XROC National day, Silverstone waiting to thrash the car round the national circuit.
May 1996,Silverstone again but this time it was the XROC stand at "Top Gear Live" a 3 day show organised by the BBC Tv show of the same name.No concours competition but it was a superb day out.
August 1996 at the classic car show held annually at Knebworth in Hertfordshire......
.......September & the XROC East Angian branch regional day. Here I got my first regional concours wins, including the judges "car of the show" award.
At Ford Fair '96 I won 1st place in the modifed mk2 Fiesta class concours & at the XROC National day I won best modified mk2 XR2
In 1997 I managed a repeat performance at Ford Fair & the XROC National day.
