Fiesta 1100L - BBJ 769Y
1983........what of it? Well I left school & got a job.Culture Club & Duran Duran were all the rage.....& the mark 1 Ford Fiesta wasn't the mk1,it was the ONLY one & in September 1983 I learnt to drive in one.
In January my Dad got a new car,a Diamond white 1100L Fiesta, registered BBJ 769Y.
                                    This is its story..........................
This is what a "new" Fiesta mk1 looked like in April 1983.CB (Citizens Band) radio was the latest thing hence the monstrous magnetic mount aerial on the roof. You won;t catch me doing that today, anyway there are mobile phones now!

By the end of 1985 "BBJ" had covered over 44000 mles & was replaced on January 1st 1986 by a new C reg Ford Escort 1300l 5 dr hatch.2495 changed hands (the trade in value) & I became the 2nd owner. The Fiesta was subjected to several dubious "styling" excercises including "furry" seat covers, red pinstripes just about everywhere, colour coded front grille & the very dodgy "Autoplas" rear louvre grille, the height of fashion in 1986.Inside I fitted a pod mounted rev counter which was soon replaced along with the original clocks by a set from a 1100 Sport.

BBJ never had an easy time of it.Kept outdoors & used in all weathers to travel to work it easily clocked 1000 miles a month.1987 was "alloys year" as I bought a set of Revolution 4 spokes. They were really for rear drive use & sat a bit wide on the Fiesta. The spokes were sprayed red but nobody except me seemed to like them so they got resprayed silver very soon afterwards. The fact that they were Rwd alloys upset the handling so they were eventually replaced with a set of Fiesta ghia alloys.
In late December 1987 BBJ was traded in against my first XR2,a red MK2 registered E434 FLM.The garage gave me 2000 for it.
In February 1988 I spotted BBJ for sale on a dealers forecourt for 2695.It then continued to haunt me everytime I went to Norwich as it had been bought by someone on my route into the city & they parked it beside the road.
1989 . In November 1988 I had to sell my XR2 to finance a mortgage deposit. Its replacement was a 1981 W reg Fiesta 1100L in prarie yellow, very nice!! In September 1989 I was driving through Norwich when I spotted BBJ for sale in a small garage.I just had to stop & deal even if the W reg had a roofrack full of carpet at the time!
BBJ had now done 71000 miles & had a price tag of 1995 & on September 27th it became mine again having traded the yellow peril in for 800.

In 1990 I finally realised the white grille looked "kak".Not a lot happened in this year as the house was "eating my money".
1991.It was back to the meddling in '91 with front quarterbumpers & 155/70 tyres on 13" steel rim emulating the late mk1 sport model.I also fitted a pair of XR2 mk2 front seats
