10 Years of C25 BEX.
On December 19th 1992 I spent 2494 at a second-hand car dealer in Norwich & became the 5th owner of a red 1986 Ford Fiesta XR2 mk2.10 years on........
The car was bought to use as everyday transport, including a 40 mile daily round trip to work.Luckily it only got this treatment until July 1993 when I got a company van.The XR2 was the realisation of a promise I made to myself in 1988 when I had to sell my previous XR2 to buy a house. On December 19th 1992 it had done 60354 miles.
1992
In 1993 the car became my first ever "pleasure only" vehicle. In other words I didn't take it to work. Its job was replaced by the escort van parked nearby. It still had to live outside though since my 2 up 2 down mansion didn't come with a garage. It also performed as the car that took my brother to church on his wedding day,as well as getting thrashed fairly regularly. At the time I had no plans of a long term relationship with the thing. It also attended Ford Fair '93.
1993
1994
In 1994 I moved house, making sure that the car got a garage at last, which was nice.I got a bit more involved with car shows this year & attended the XR Owners Club national day as well as Ford Fair. The car had now covered 71401 miles by July 13th.
In 1995 it took to the track at Silverstone during the XR Owners club national day.It also visited Ford Fair again as part of the XROC display.By now I was showing the car with my local XROC branch, and was becoming very interested in concour competion.."the art of getting a car so squeaky clean its painful!!".So in October it came off the road for a rebuild in an attempt to be competitive.................................................................
1995
.........On May 1st 1996 the car returned to the road in "modified concours" condition. It had received a total respray in radiant red, including the engine bay & boot .The restoration story can be seen elsewhere on this site.
I entered it in the modifed Fiesta/XR2 mk2 classes at Ford Fair ,96 & the XR national day...and won first time out, something I never thought would happen straight away.
1996
1997 was the year of the "clear front indicator" for any respectable mk2,so I followed the crowd.I also fitted a set of RS 7 spoke alloy wheels with yokohama tyres although the pepperpots also made an occasional appearance. In this year it was featured in the March issue of "Revs" magazine for the XR2 mk2 buyers guide (with pepperpots).Ford Fair '97 & the national day came & went with me retaining both concours titles.
1997
1998
Not a lot changed for 1998 except for a Ford Credit Fiesta racing series sunstrip. The concours results did change though.I managed to gain a 3rd consecutive win at Ford Fair '97,but was beaten into 2nd at the XR national day by an absolutely stunning white E reg example with 46ooo miles showing.By now C25 BEX had covered almost 77ooo miles.
1999
!999 saw a shortened show season for the XR,it was only on the road for 2 months instead of the usual 6 each year. This meant Ford Fair '99 was missing the dreaded red XR.The XR national was attended though with a repeat 2nd place at the hands of the same white XR as '98.The car did however attend the NEC classis car show with the Fiesta Club GB in November,a 3 day event (for exhibitors).I did cheat though & trailered it there.
