We've had a fairly quiet year this year, it always starts with things you want to do and normally don't manage. We had intended to go over the water a few more times this year, but apart from a quick day run in April we've been here.
We went with half a dozen other bikes to see a couple of the old World War Two sites, one at Eperleques which was a V2 Rocket Launch in a state of some dis-repair, and the other just outside Ypres.
The Blockhaus at Eperleques was a huge building with 4 feet thick walls, which must have been a busy place to be working but would have given you a certain degree of 'feeling safe'. You can see where the bombs landed around the perimeter, and somehow a midget 2 man sub was there as well? In the front was a doodle bug on the launch ramp, and although it packed a punch it didn't look that big.
From there we went on to the Firts World War trenches in Snctuary Wood, on the outskirts of Ypres. The cafe out front has a vast collection of items such as ammunition, uniforms, guns, personal belongings etc. There are also some old viewing machines that you can look at engravings of the time and the bodies laying where they died. It does make you think!
The rest of the year has been saving up for Christams. We won't be here this year as we've decided it's a pain in the a**e, so we're off to Tenerife for a fortnight. The kids don't enjoy it anymore so it was an easy choice to make, we will be back for New Year as our flight lands at 20:40 and we can get back home to see it in with family and friends.
