Essentially a shortened AR15, the M4A1 Carbine is intended to be an agile, close quarters combat solution that is well suited to urban combat. It uses the same action as the AR15, but the shorter barrel reduces muzzle velocity and range. Targets should not be engaged with the M4A1 at ranges beyond 120 yards because the velocity of the round will not reliably fragment upon impact at that distance. The current M4 that is for sale in the civilian sector lacks the adjustable stock, but even with the stock fully extended it remains a compact, light rifle that can fit into places the would make the AR15 seem awkward and cumbersome in comparison.
