First you will need a uniform : 

1 pair of period style pants($45.00) made of:
 

a. Canvas
b. Jean Cloth
c. Wool (Always a last resort. Wool is too hot for summer.)
d. Cotton (This is your best and least expensive choice.)

1 Cotton period style shirt.($30.00)

1 pair of thick white suspenders.($14.00)

2 pair of thick wool or cotton socks. Wool is better for absorbing persperation from your feet.($7.00 ea)

1 pair of leather Brogans with heel plates.($95.00)

1 felt slouch hat, bummer or kepi.($14.00 - $40.00)

You will also need: 

1 3-Band Enfield or Springfield Blackpowder Musket,58 caliber.(Enfield $395.00 Springfield $415.00)

1 Bayonet with scabbard.(40.00)

1 Leather belt.($14.00)

1 C.S.A./Texas/U.S.A. brass belt buckle.($6.00-$20.00)

1 Cartridge box($30.00) and Cap box.(15.00)

1 Canvas haversack.($20.00)

1 Mess plate(a pie pan will do).($3.00-$5.00)

1Three tine fork and 1 knife.($12.00 a pair)

1 Canteen.($25.00)

1 Gum blanket($30.00) and an old quilt(to sleep on)which could range in price.

1 6 foot dog tent($50.00) or 1 6X9 foot A frame tent.(135.00)

1 Pair of period style eyeglasses (if needed). ($15.00)

These are the basic items you will need to start reenacting and reliving history. It is not important to purchase all the equipment at once. Uniform,hat,haversack,canteen,eating utensils and musket are the essentials and the rest can be bought throughout the year. Shirts and pants patterns can also be purchased to lower your starting costs. All of the above pricing will vary so check around.
