Welcome!
Some people
advertise themselves on the world wide web through personal ads on
various web sites. I suppose I could debate whether that is a lame
method of mentioning their existence, but I cannot say much since I
actually have my "profile" on some of those sites (albeit set so that
people cannot view my profile). Seriously, though, I think that most
profiles do not really give an accurate representation of an
individual's likes, dislikes, beliefs, personality, and other
characteristics. This is partly because internet communication, by
nature, falls short of face-to-face interaction. However, a part of
its insufficiency can be and, perhaps in my case has been,
remedied through the use of personal web sites. Unlike the intelligent
people who keep their web sites to a minimum, I have signed up for so
many sites that I have forgotten how many different places I have
accounts. This particular web site is intended to be my public one,
where I will share all the personal details that anyone could possibly
hope to know about me (more than that, actually, for most people)--but
without mentioning my last name.
I came to know
the Lord in the summer of 1985, when I was two and a half years old.
My parents had begun teaching me Bible verses as soon as I could speak
and they were very consistent in sharing the Gospel with me. At that
particular point in my life, I recognized that I was a sinner and that
I could not go to heaven apart from the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.
I prayed and asked for His forgiveness and salvation, which He
graciously granted me. As I began to grow in Christ, I recognized sin
in my own life more frequently and sought the Lord's sanctifying grace
for daily living.
My parents,
especially my mom, began home schooling me when I was almost six years
old, in the fall of 1988. They continued this means of education all
the way through high school. I graduated in 2000 with no specific
plans to attend college. I will share more on this subject in the
section entitled "Bible Study," but I did not feel like the Lord was
leading me to attend college at that time. Since then, I have attended
a community college, where I earned two associates degrees for
completing the core classes for science and liberal arts. When I
graduated from the community college in 2005, I was planning to
transfer to the university and begin courses that would lead me to an
undergraduate degree in English. I hoped to obtain a graduate degree
in education and become a certified English teacher for seventh
through twelfth grade.
When I was
young, the Lord began to plant a desire in my heart to work with unwed
mothers. At the time, I really was not quite sure how this could
happen or how I should prepare. Even earlier this year I was not sure,
so I decided to take some time away from academic pursuits and seek
the Lord more specifically and practically by volunteering at a crisis
pregnancy center. During the three months that I have spent in that
environment so far, I started to realize how helpful medical
qualifications would be in this type of ministry. With this in mind, I
am preparing to enter nursing school, despite my lifelong intentions
to avoid the medical field. The Lord has a keen sense of irony, it
seems.
Currently, I
am working part-time at the community college I attended. My
supervisors there have very graciously given me a flexible schedule
that allows me to participate in many church activities as well as
Bible Study Fellowship in addition to my time as a volunteer. I am
also taking Heartbeat International's distance learning course to
become a pregnancy consultant. Honestly, I miss school at the moment,
but I am looking for ways to fill my time profitably while I finish my
year away from full-time education. It is my intention, if the Lord
wills it, to begin nursing school in the fall of 2006. I do share more
about my life, beliefs, and goals on the various pages of my web site.
