Music

I actually have music that I intend to upload eventually. It's not the most beautiful music you will ever hear, nor is it professional. However, it does come from a heart of worship to the Lord and a desire for my prayer to be a sweet sound in my Savior's ear.

In terms of convictions related to music, I have none. Well, I have a conviction that music needs to be God-honoringbut then so does everything else we choose to "ingest" in whatever sense. You can debate the appropriateness of secular music or of Christian music that, to a degree, may sound secular. But can you really debate what you have personally found to bring you into God's presence, music that inspires you to worship the Lord? I urge you to find that music and to use it as you worship the Lord.

Having said all this about worship, though, I have to tell you: I believe that worship is far from being confined to what we do in music. The way we live our lives is to be worshipful. Worship is, in essence, knowing and delighting in God. Whether it is in music or in the way we live all the other aspects of our lives, our one goal should be to please the Lord.

So...what kind of music do I like? I've attempted to enjoy classical music and there are some pieces that I do actually appreciate. However, I have found that the most meaningful musicto meis music with lyrics, especially lyrics that are either Scripture or are based on Scripture. Usually, this is most true of hymns, praise and worship songs, and some other music that doesn't really fit into either category. I like some Gospel music, although I generally prefer my music a little more "refined." Classical music with words (like Handel's "Messiah") is also excellent.

Here are some of the musical resources that I have found especially helpful in my musical worship of the Lord.
