'Neon Ballroom'
Silverchair
Neon Ballroom
1999
Colombia
By Chris Shipman
With this album Aussie rockers Silverchair finally shook off their Nirvana in Pyjamas tag that had dogged them since their debut release, 'Frogstomp' four years previously.  In this, much like 'Mellon Collie...' by the Smashing Pumpkins the band break away from their rock roots and explore a wider sonic range including Pianos and Strings as shown in 'Emotion Sickness'.  The album features some of John's most powerful songwriting and shows what he was going through at the time.  At first hard to get into but well worth the effort.

Best Bits: 'Emotion Sickness', 'Anthem for the year 2000', 'Steam Will Rise''
