| Red Hot Chili Peppers By The Way 2002 Warner Bros. Records By Chris Shipman |

| The biggest problem for the new RHCP album that faced the band was how to top the critically acclaimed 'Californication', an album which ushered the Chili Peppers back into the spotlight. On 'By the way' the band opt for a more mellow approach, and gone are most of the funky beats that eminated from Stereo's the world over ten years ago when the album 'Blood, Sugar, Sex Magic' was released. Songwriting takes a more forward seat on this album and Kleidis has improved no end on songs such as 'Tear' he proves he has a rare gift. However, the funk is not all gone with the song 'By the way' which has a funky bassline and 'This is the place' which, even if mellow still show that the Chili's are one of the best rockbands on the planet. But there is a downside. being that there is some filler on here and this will no way better 'Californication' still a good album though. Best Bits: 'By the way', 'This is the place', 'Tear' Grade: B |
