| Pearl Jam Vs. 1993 Epic By Chris Shipman |
||||||||||||
| After 'Ten' Pearl Jam were made superstars. At the forefront of the Seattle grunge movement along with Nirvana Eddie Vedder and company took the world by storm selling twelve million odd copies of the 1992 album. On this album PJ shunned the mainstream and went underground, well as underground as a band who sells eleven million can go and refused to make video's and rarely gave interviews. On 'Vs.' Pearl Jam mixed the 70's rock in ten with much heavier punk and then threw in a splash of Blues making 'Vs.' one of the most rockey songs about. The album kicks in with 'Go' a great song to get an album going and makes you want to jump around like A jack in a box on acid, then into the Evenflow-esque 'Animal'. There are also mellower moments too, notably 'Daughter', 'Elderly woman...' and 'Indifference'. But the song of the album is 'Rearviewmirror' a great song with a great climax. If you want an Pearl jam album its hard to choose between this and 'Ten' but go for Ten as it is more accessable. However do not rule out 'Vs.' because it should come with a warning stating: 'CAUTION:Hard Rocking Contained'. Best Bits: 'Daughter','Rearviewmirror','Go','Elderly Woman...' Grade: A |
