Max Payne (PS2/X box) By: Billy
Story
The story in Max Payne is one that gets the mind intrigued and alert. As an officer in the [police] force, you find out that your family has been murdered and have taken upon yourself to find out what, or actually, WHO was behind it and WHY. Through the drug infested city, you will find twists in the storyline which my confuse you at first, but not to worry, it ties together in the end.
PROS
The action in the game is probably one of the best, as far as action-adventure games are concerned. The controls are very easy to use. Adaptation to the control scheme is approximately 10-15 minutes. The use of bullet-time is what sets this game apart from third person shooters. Being able to do Matrix style movements is the biggest eye-opener in this game. I feel that the bullet-time addition was well done and deservers much credit, opposed to that slow-motion button use in DEAD TO RIGHTS (Xbox-please refer to my review on DTR in the game page). The graphics are smooth on both versions, BUT, the Xbox counterpart has a slight edge, due to the fact that Max Payne was originally out for PC. Meaning, the processing power of the Xbox made the movements slightly more smoother and cleaner to that of the PS2. The story will have you hooked from the very beginning. Great story line. You would have to play it yourself to understand what Im talking about. The availability to select several types of weapons for use, (ranging from lead pipe to dual uzis) gives the gamer the option to feel around and test out what weapon they prefer. I suggest dual weapons, any dual weapons, just start unloading. The action can be seen from various angles at certain times. There will be times when close-ups will take place when an enemy goes down, brought to you in slow-motion. Then there will be times when [if you are playing it same level again] there will be no close-up of the same enemy you brought down previously. This adds to the uniqness of the game, its the same, yet it changes. |
