Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII
By Alan

The first out of the legendary series to land on the PlayStation.  With its (at the time) stunning graphics, wondrous gameplay, and engrossing storyline, VII is arguably one of the best out of the series.  You are Cloud, an ex-member of SOLDIER, an elite military group, and join the rebel movement AVALANCHE.  As the story progresses, the plot thickens, new allies are made (and lost), and you take on the courageous task of saving the world.

The Pros

The Story

VII has the best story for any video game, by far.  The occurring events and stimulating dialogue can keep you playing for hours at a time.  The game is so enthralling, it can easily be made into a movie.  VII offers a wide variety of characters and has a way of introducing and developing those characters that keeps your attention on the story at hand.  Of course, VII is your basic save-the-world plot, but SquareSoft has a knack for changing and adding new elements to the story to make it so great.

The Graphics

Of course, at the time of this writing, graphics have improved a great deal since FFVIIs release in 1997.  But at the time, I remember just being astounded by the graphics of the game.  With the series platform change from Super Nintendo to PlayStation, it was a HUGE jump between FFVI and FFVII.  I mean, before, during battles, all you see is your character step out of line a few steps, swing their weapons and hit an enemy all the way across the screen.  Now, your characters were actually running up to the enemy before striking.  That alone made me say sweet!  But to this day, SquareSoft continues to amaze its gamers with every new FF title that is released.
