Exploring Adat Shalom Congregation

Thank you for entering my page!  Right now, you are probably searching to find out more about Jewish beliefs in Jesus.  Perhaps, you are questioning your faith, and are looking at different options. Are you located in the Dallas area? Have you been thinking about joining Messianic Judaism? Adat Shalom Congregation in Dallas, Texas is a Messianic congregation looking for new Jewish members. Adat Shalom claims that you can stay Jewish and believe in Jesus. However, they are not a Jewish congregation at all-they are actually members of the Southern Baptist Convention! I will show that Adat Shalom is a Christian organization using their web-site and other Christian sites. Reference links will be provided so that you can see the proof with your own eyes.

Southern Baptist Connection

Adat Shalom is a full member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Obviously, a real Jewish congregation would not be part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Here is the link to their listing in the SBC's directory: Click Here

Further, Adat Shalom is also officially part of the The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. Here is the proof: Click Here

Of course, a real Jewish congregation would not be a part of The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. Interestingly, on Adat Shalom's older website, they stated that they "began as an outreach of First Baptist Church of Dallas." They have since removed their history statement from their website. However, First Baptist Church of Dallas has not forgotten about Adat Shalom and given information on Adat Shalom on their website: Click Here

You will notice that on the First Baptist's site it said

"Adat Shalom Messianic Congregation is a ministry to the Jewish people of Dallas. Begun by Dr. W. A. Criswell in 1990..."

W.A. Criswell is the former senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas. He was not Jewish. Not for one minute of his life. Here is a history of W.A. Criswell from the Southern Baptist Convention, in which you can see that he has no affiliation with anything Jewish: Click Here

Criswell created a missionary outreach to the Jewish people which is now known as Adat Shalom. His desire was to convert Jews, not to create true Jewish worship or beliefs. Adat Shalom is nothing more than a church with Jewish "clothing." As a Christian church, Adat Shalom worships in another church, Trinity Hillcrest. Here is the link to the Trinity calendar in which Adat Shalom is listed on the Fridays: Click Here

Overall, it is clear that Adat Shalom is just an extension of the Southern Baptist Convention's evangelism of the Jews.

Christian Leadership

As Adat Shalom is a Christian church, it is not suprising that all of it's leadership have graduated from Christian colleges. According to Adat Shalom's website, it's congregation leader is Robin Rose. If you look at the last paragraph in his bio on their website, it states that Rose graduated from Dallas Bible College and Criswell College. Gordon DeLand is the Associate Pastor of Adat Shalom. According to the last paragraph of his bio, he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary and the Moody Bible Institute. Steven Ger is the Worship Leader. In the second to last paragraph of his bio it states that he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary. Here is the link to their website for the proof: Click Here

Now, for a quick review of the aforementioned schools.

Criswell College, Robin Rose's alma mater, is an official college of the Southern Baptist Convention. It is named after Criswell, the senior pastor of First Baptist of Dallas, the same Criswell who created Adat Shalom. His other alma mater, Dallas Bible College, is now part of Criswell College. Here is a link to the SBC site that shows Criswell's affiliation; please note that the list is in alphabetical order: Click Here

This is how the Dallas Theological Seminary describes itself:

"Dallas Seminary is nondenominational and seeks to serve those of like biblical faith in evangelical Protestantism."

This is a school that no real Jewish leader would attend. Here is a link to the quote, the quote comes from the last paragraph: Click Here

Moody Bible Institute is another large Christian Institution. This is their mission statement:

"Under the authority of God and His Word and in commitment to Christ and His Church, Moody Bible Institute exists to equip and motivate people to advance the cause of Christ through ministries that educate, edify, and evangelize."

Here is the link to the quote: Click Here

These schools are missionary training grounds, not Jewish educational institutions.

Professor of Conversion

Since Adat Shalom's job is to convert Jews, it is not suprising that they attract Christians interested in coverting Jews. One example is Professor Amy Downey of Arlington Baptist College. According to her bio on Arlington Baptist's website:

"My heart has always been to see the salvation of the Jewish people. As the daughter of a Baptist minister, I have always understood that my salvation and my privilege of eternity with God has been because of a Jewish man named Jesus. How could I not want to see the Jewish people come to know Him as Messiah?"

Here is the link to the quote, which comes from the first paragraph of the website. In the last paragraph of her bio it says she is "an active participant in the Adat Shalom Messianic Congregation": Click Here

Great Sites, Priceless Information

Here are a number of great sites that counter missionaries and explain the differences in belief between Judaism and Christianity, including addressing the Biblical verses that missionaries try to use against the Jews and explaining why the missionaries are incorrect.
