I can safely say that for this shoot, every single detail was carefully planned out. Having met Zahir Rahimtoola from Labels a couple of months prior to the shoot, he mentioned that Labels planned to bring out a line for the emancipated, working woman. In our attempt to find the perfect model that would be able to bring to camera the ideal look for the woman envision in Labels’ power dressing for women line, we went through several interesting model auditions. ZQ happened to be in town during one of the meetings, was called in and warmed up to the idea instantly.

What immediately became noticeable however, during the preparations for the shoot was that it wasn’t going to be easy trying to find the perfect location at which to shoot the collection — which Anisa designed also keeping the shoot in mind. One of the reasons for that was that where there are many places which are representative of where the working man would call his refuge, there aren’t that many that embody the same for women. Most of the locations scouted had a definite, manly feel to them in terms of interior etc. However, Dr Sadia Rizvi who is acquainted with the Rahimtoolas, was generous enough to lend us her working space for the shoot.

Since the emancipated woman could get nothing but the absolute best, the same was for the accessories. Since all of them were high-end brands, each product had it’s own little team of people to help handle them for us. Between the Labels’ team, the photographer’s team, the team from Choppards, Dr Sadia Rizvi’s assistants and the team responsible for Shehrzad’s jewellery, we had quite a few people on set and thankfully, at the end of it all, nothing was missed. — MS

The theme for her thesis collection was festivals from around the world, but now that the globe of her life has revolved to the longitude of her career, Anisa Khan is giving women a reason to celebrate on even non-occasions with three lines of chic and easy dressing (casual, eastern, and power) for Labels.

Until a short while ago, it was a shop whose lone claim to fashion fame, much as its name implied, was its glittering inventory of 'it' designer brands. Labels was the house of refuge for some of fashion’s newest and most dynamic visionaries such as Maheen Karim and Zara Shahjehan, and sometimes offering Karachiites their first tantalizing glimpse of Lahore’s creative vivacity. Indeed, stocking awe-striking celebrity dressmakers such as Deepak Perwani and Maheen Khan, it still rightfully touts itself as Pakistan's premier multi-designer store.

However, a little under a year ago, Labels presciently acquired a bright young graduate from the Asian Institute of Fashion Design and that is when fate turned. With Anisa’s entry as head designer into its in-house range of clothing, Labels no longer merely sang playback for more recognizable stars, but instead found its own voice and started to claim center stage among fashion’s contemporary lineup. It is now the store’s hottest commodity, effortlessly outscoring the heavy-hitters in sales.

The line, continuously re-visioned due to the rapid turnover, is fluent in the latest trends, but never stammers at a particular season. Anisa, a product of a multi-cultural upbringing in Burma, America, and Pakistan, refreshingly infuses the clothes with her charismatic joie de vivre that makes them as accessible and relevant today as they would be a few years down the line. They are instant classics. — Shehryar E. Qureshi
