The Topkapi Palace was where the sultans lived for four centuries. All the myths we hear about how sultans lived and ruled are true in some aspects and exaggerated in others. Of course, everyone is always curious about the Harem where the Sultan's wives lived. They lived and wandered within the compounds, never to go outside of the Palace. It is just a funny reminder that even though cultures differed in many ways, there are still traits of human nature that makes us all the same. It was the same way in the Forbidden City in China. | 2 |

The palace is divided into four courts. The First Court (Court of Procession) is open to everyone. The Second Court is open only to people on imperial business. The Third Court is for the imperial family and staff. The Fourth Court is where the family quarters are located.
The exterior and interior of the palace is simply amazing. From the exquisite details on the ceilings and the walls to the intricate patterns of the mosaic grounds, the Topkapi boasts luxury suitable for any sultan or king. |
