Landscapes are a great subject to photograph as there is not usually a lot of movement. This means that you can set slower shutter speeds and get greater depths. With landscape photography it is also usually a good idea to add a foreground object to the photograph.

What lens to use
When you are taking landscape photographs you will usually need to use a lens with a focal length of 50mm or less so as to add depth to your photographs. When using a foreground object you will have to focus on it and close down (use a high f-number like f/22) the lens as much as possible. This will of course require the use of a tripod or some support. If you are however adding a foreground object to the image you wont want to get too close too it as the closer you get the less the background that will be in focus.
