The people were staring, their mouths open wide. The mean lady yelled, "PLEASE BE QUIET INSIDE!" I said to the people, the young and the old, "My friend here is sniffing because of a cold." My dog grabbed a hankie and blew his dog nose. Then I carefully led Rover down the next rows. "If you act like a dog, then she'll throw us both out. The mean lady won't have a dog hanging 'bout. I think that we ought to get out of this place, before someone sees all the hairs on your face." So we quietly got all the books we could hold Then stood in the "Checking-out" line as were told. Finally, the lady turned meanly and said, "Next please." Those words seemed to fill us with dread. |
