Road rage and where are we heading?

Headlines of road rage are popping up at weekly intervals with major stories of innocent people being attacked and killed for no reason at all. The victims are innocent motorists either going on their way to work or on social outings.

Last week an aircraft engineer in the prime of life in his early thirties was sending his girlfriend home after finishing their shopping in one of the shopping malls. Another man in a car following behind began to flash his lights on this engineer’s car. After a while the engineer decided to stop in front of a furniture mall to see what was wrong.

As he got down of his car the other driver also got down and confronted the engineer with a chopper. This man slashed the engineer on the left side of his neck for no apparent reason. They were strangers to one another and they had no quarrel. The engineer suffered a great loss of blood and died on the way to hospital.

Today another incident took place where a 37 year old petrol station owner was driving home and he confronted a group of 10 motorcyclists who were riding recklessly on the road and endangering the lives of other road users.

One of the motorcyclists passed his car and smashed his windscreen with a crash helmet resulting in the car crashing into a drain. The driver got down from his car to confront the motorcyclists for what they had done. The 10 motorcyclists then began to attack the innocent driver with stones and sticks until the man collapsed on the ground. The hooligans fled from the scene leaving the man behind.

Two of the man’s friends were in the car at that time but they were too afraid to come to the rescue of the poor man. The man also died on the way to hospital.

There are numerous stories of similar cases where the road bullies have attacked other motorists on the highway for no apparent reason. Some of these have suffered damages to their vehicles and others have sustained bodily injuries.

The fact still remains that hooliganism and road rage is getting out of control.

Why do we see such brutal and uncivilized behavior of man especially in this age of so called modernization and culture? We are looking at building our society towards achieving the status of the first world countries but yet we see such backwards behavior among the people. These assaults and crime are not committed in the rural areas where supposedly the people are less educated and less sophisticated.

The perpetrators of these crimes are city dwellers and are supposed to be more educated and refined but yet this sad state of affairs are happening on such a regular basis.

What about the number of snatch thieves who operate everywhere snatching the hand bags of innocent women going about their daily chores? The snatch thieves have no whims of who they attack. Many women and pregnant mothers have been victimized and several have succumbed to their injuries as a result of being pulled by the snatch thieves on motorcyles. The majority of the victims suffered head injuries as they are dragged onto the road surface . Innocent children have been made orphans because of these ruthless attacks on innocent women.

The prime targets of these snatch thieves are ladies and those who survived the snatch thieves have been traumatized and many have lost their confidence and are now in deep emotional depression needing psychological and medical treatment. Not only this, they have to incur great loss in terms of medical fees.

Why is all this happening and where does it lead us?

Why is there such an increase in lawlessness in the country and the world?

Scriptures tell us that we are heading towards the last days before the soon coming of The Lord. That day will not come until the man of lawlessness is revealed.

‘And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.’ ( 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7)

Evil will become progressively unrestrained as history draws to a close. The powers of lawlessness will become stronger in the world. The restrainer, (the one who holds it back) of the ‘secret power’ is then taken out of the way. Next the man of lawlessness is revealed.

The scriptures tell us that sometime afterward; the man of lawlessness is destroyed along with all who delighted in wickedness.

Father God, I confess that I have gone cold and have departed from you. I now come and re-consecrate myself to you and confess my sins before you. Forgive me of all my sins and I receive my salvation which has been bought for me at the cross of Calvary through the precious blood of our Lord Jesus. AMEN
