Etta J Edwards

Etta J Edwards was born April 25, 1911 to Sigel Newton Edwards and Viola Helen Murren Edwards in Corning Iowa.

On yet an unknown date, Etta married Arthur Ray Gates. This union produced two children Billy Dale Gates and Jim Arthur Gates. This marriage ended in divorce.

On Jan. 4, 1938 she married Charles Clyde Davis. This union produced a son who died at birth 1941, a daughter Clydas Janell (Davis) Koontz, and Charles Cecil Davis who died in the Vietnam War in 1967. When this marriage ended in divorce, she married Hershel B. Willis.

Etta was an accomplished housewife and worked as an excellent cook.

In 1979 Etta stood in as Robert Dulaney's mother at his and her neice's Marjorie Marie Mathis's wedding in Bethany, Missouri.

Etta J. Edwards died in Columbia Missouri on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.

Eta is survived Janell (Randal) Koontz. Grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her half brother Bobby Edwards and Half sister Betty Meek.

She was preceded in death by husbands; three sons an infant baby, Billy and Cecil. Brothers Troy and Leonard Edwards, and sisters Gladys Viola Edwards, Thelma Harrison, Helen Simpson, and Lucille Marie (Crow / Mathis / Moore) Edwards.

A Purple Heart and a gold star in lieu of a second Purple Heart was awarded posthumously to Pfc. Charles C. Davis were presented to his mother Mrs. Etta J. Willis, by Sgt. C. C. Anderson, Marine Corps recruiter from St. Joseph The Purple Heart awards were for wounds received in action against insurgent Communist guerrilla forces on May 1 and May 3 in the Republic of Viet Nam. A Purple Heart certificate Mrs. Willis. Other awards presented to Mrs. Willis in recognition of her son's service in the Marine Corps in addition to the National Service Defense Medal, and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign ribbon Bar.
