We've always been fascinated by the concept of censorship, particularly as it applies to music.  While we'll readily admit that we haven't put a great deal of time or energy into this effort, here's a brief list of popular album covers that have been banned, censored, or withdrawn by record labels.  They range from truly innocuous issues (check out The Five Keys entry), to some covers that were truly tasteless (Mom's Apple Pie comes to mind).

It's also interesting to see how public tastes and morals have changed across the years - it didn't take much to get censored in the '50s, nor does it seem to take much to generate a stir in the '90s.

As for which act(s) have had the most album covers banned, censored or withdrawn?  Well we were certainly surprised !!!   John Cougar Mellencamp, Three Dog Night and The Rolling Stones have each had two covers banned, censored or withdrawn.

We're putting these up as time allows, so not all of the links are currently active.  If you know of any others you'd like to contribute to the list, let us know.  We'll be thrilled to give credit where due.  You can reach us at [email protected]

Thanks in advance
