After Germany's great defeat in World War I, it found itself in a very bad economic situation. The debt it owed other countries was so huge that the Germans thought that the only "party" that could save Germany from its' bad economic situation was the Nazi Party. Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party. Hitler believed that the Jews were the main reason for Germany's bad economy and promised that if elected president, he would help revitalize Germany. The people liked Hitler's idea, and immediately elected him and his party to power. After he got elected, he immediately started the process of puting limitations on the Jews. Hitler's process conatined three steps. First, he demolished their businesses, second, he demolished thier synagogues, and finally he killed all of the jews with the help of the concentration camps. Adolf Hiter murdered six million Jews just because of their religion. To remember this terrible era, a special day is dedicated to those who died on that day. Some Jews were able to escape from Hitler and the Nazi party. Those Jews that escaped from this terrible regime immigrated to countries like: England, United States, and Palestine. To prevent another Holocaust, the Jews needed a state of thier own. On May 14th, 1948, the first prime minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion declared Israel a Jewish state. Many in the international community recognized Israel as being a Jewish state except the Arab states. They claimed the Jews took away their land. A day after the declaration of Israel's independence the Arab states attacked Israel. But the war of '48 was just the beginning of the road for Israel's fight to exist. Even today, Israel is fighting for peace and freedom, but both of these things come at a very expensive price; injuries, and death. Currently, Israel is experiencing the fury of Palestinian terrorism against innocent civilians. As the fight for survival and freedom continues we all hope that Israel sees peace very soon. Israel is ofcourse still open for tourism and continues to be a great destination for foreigners. We hope to see you in the Land of Milk and Honey both in good times and in bad. |
